The 65th Republic day observed peacefully at Nazira sub division today. The central ceremonial programme was held at Nazira play ground where Mousumi Baruah, SDO Civil hoisted the National Flag at 9-30 AM and received the guard of honour. Several distinguished persons and well known NGO Pragati of Nazira were awarded in the Republic Day function for their service towards the socio-economic development of the area. No unwanted incidents were reported.

Veteran Congress leader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. Saikia, the elder brother of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia died of prolonged illness. Many political leaders, organizations and individuals have deeply condoled his death. 71th Independence Day was observed with traditional gaity and flavour in different places of Nazira Sub division. The main event was held at Nazira playground, where civil administration organised the Independence Day with a day long programme.
