Braving ULFA-NDFB-KLO boycott calls, reports of Republic Day celebrations are pouring in from across the state.

In Sivasagar, parliamentary secretary Sarat Saikia unfurled the national flag at the Boarding Field in the district headquarters in the morning.

Industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi took salute of the army and para military forces after unfurling the tricolor.

Similarly, forest minister Rockybul Hussain hoisted the flag in Nagaon, cultural affairs minister Pranati Phukan in Goalpara, social welfare minister Akon Bora in Nalbari, parliamentary secretary Rekibuddin Ahmed in Dhubri hoisted the flag peacefully.

Parliamentary secretary Rajib Luchan Pegu hoisted that flag in Jorhat while PWD minister Ajanta Neog hoisted the flag in Golaghat and took salute of the army and para military forces.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary hoisted the flag in Kokrajhar despite bandh call by the NDFB-S militants. In his speech, he  urged the militants to shun the path of violence.    

Public health engineering minister Gautom Roy unfurled the national flag in Silchar defying general strike called by 11 insurgent outfits operating in the north eastern region.

The Dispur police have freed Anjan Bora after questioning in connection with his recent Facebook status claiming that a BJP lady legislator makes money by indulging in flash trade triggering anger and acrimony across the state. Bora, whom CID arrested on Saturday and released on bail by a local court in Guwahati a couple of hours later, was picked up by a team of Dispur police on Sunday. After questioning him acting on the complaint lodged by the state BJP leadership, the suspended assistant commandant of the Manja-based APBn was allowed to go.

A team of Dispur police on Sunday arrested the suspended deputy commandant of Assam Police Battalion in Karbi Anglong district acting on a complaint lodged against him after he in his Facebook status made derogatory remarks on a lady BJP legislator four days back. The Assam police on Friday suspended Anjan Bora three days after the  police officer dropped a bombshell against a BJP MLA alleging her involvement in flash trade in Dispur triggering statewide and acrimony. Dispur police station, has further registered a case against Bora on Thursday hours after   Inspector  General of Police Pradip Haloi who holds the charge of administration on Thursday moved CID registering a case against him alleging an uncharitable charge against the lady legislator. Noted educationist and author Dilip Kumar Baruah breathed his life following a brief illness' in Guwahati on Friday descending a pall of gloom across the state. He was 73. Baruah, who enjoyed a brilliant academic career completed his post graduate from Delhi University in Economics and joined Cotton College. Later, he retired as principal of the country’s premier college. An author Barua is also enjoyed no less veneration as quizmaster. His colleagues, friends, students and individuals thronged his house in the city as soon as the news of his sudden death spread like wildfire in the morning.
