Assam celebrated Silpi Divas across the state to commemorate the death anniversary of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla on Friday. Cultural functions, Jyoti Sangeet competitions and seminars were organized in many places to mark the occasion. The central function at took place in Tezpur, the birthplace of the first Assamese film maker.

Assam state BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal is taking oath as Chief Minister on Tuesday after his party swept the recent assembly polls. Governor PB Acharya is scheduled to administer the Union minister of oath of office and secrecy at a function at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara in the morning to succeed Tarun Gogoi who has resigned when his party could not retain the power. BJP is preparing to form a coalition government in a day or two with the help of AGP and BPF. The party tally has gone up to 60 till the final round of the counting where many Congress veterans and ministers have been defeated. These inclide Pradyut Bordoloi, Sarat Borkotoky, Bishmita Gogoi. AGP has improved its tally to 16 while BPF got 10 seats. Congress had to remain satisfied with 24 seats. The formal announcement is awaited. Condemning against the brutal killing of two scribes in Bihar and Jharkhand this week and demanding justice for the victim families, a protest demonstration has been organized in front of Guwahati Press Club tomorrow (Monday) at 2.30 pm. ournalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed shock over the murder of two scribes in separate incidents in central India and urged the authorities to punish the culprits under the law.
