Nilambar Buragohain, Area Organiser, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), posted at Force Head Quarter Delhi as Additional Director (Administration), has been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service 2008. Buragohain has been working with the paramilitary service since 1976. He hails from Napam Gaon, Dhemaji.
This Medal is awarded every year on the occasion of Independence and Republic Day in recognition of the meritorious record in Police service or in the Central Police/ Security Organistaion. All Police personnel in the country with at least 15 years of service are eligible for this award. The recipients of the award are presented Medals in Ceremonies arranged by the State Government/ Central Police Organisation concerned.

Four hardcrore ULFA cadres were killed in Sonari during a joint operation by Army and Sivasagar police on late Friday night. According to information, Army’s 316 Field regiment jawans and the Sivasagar police conducted a massive raid in Naphuk Naharani gaon under Sonari police station and found out these ULFA cadres in a house. An unidentified call has created a flutter in the entire Golaghat town on Friday forcing the authorities to beef up security measures. According to information, a Bar Association member Sashanka Tamuly has received an unidentified telephone call at 1 pm on Friday. The caller has threatened to blow up all the offices in the town barring the Apex Bank. As soon as the message spread like wild fire, the authorities are fanning police and para military troops in the town to launch a vigorous search operation.
