Inter-DPS basketball tournament concludes

The Inter DPS Basketball Tournament Zone 4 Boys (Open) hosted by DPS Numaligarh under the aegis of DPS Society, came to an end October 21. A total of eight teams - DPS Digboi, DPS Dimapur, DPS Nazira, DPS Guwahati, DPS Bokaro, DPS Ruby Park Kolkata and DPS Megacity Kolkata inclusive of the host school - participated in the tournament.

The two teams that qualified for the final match were DPS Megacity, Kolkata and the host school DPS Numaligarh. Earlier in the day, DPS Bokaro qualified as the 2nd Runners Up playing against DPS Dimapur.

The Special Invitee at the closing ceremony P.K.Barua, General Manager (Commercial), Numaligarh Refinery Limited, wished the finalists and the match began with team DPS Numaligarh Captain Bomito Kinimi scoring the first basket. However, DPS Megacity soon started scoring points thereafter and won the game by 53-22.

The Best Scorers Trophy was bagged by Lironthang Lotha from DPS Numaligarh. The match was followed by a short cultural programme and prize distribution.

S.K.Barua Director (Finance), Numaligarh Refinery Limited lowered the school flag and declared the tournament over. The Principal of DPS Numaligarh Anurekha Barkakoti, in her speech, thanked everyone for their support and looked forward to more such experiences in the future.

The two finalist teams have qualified for The Inter DPS National Basketball Tournament Boys (Open) to be held at DPS Dwarka, New Delhi from 20-22 December ’13.

Numaligarh Refinery , situated at a distance of 250 KM from Guwahati and 25 KM from Golaghat, was engulfed in a devastating fire broke out at the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) of the refinery in the wee hours of morning on Friday. “The fire was started at around 5.24 am and in a joint effort by the fire tenders of NRL, Bokakhat, Dergaon and Golaghat were able to put off the fire at 9.40 am.” Kajol Saikia of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. Members of Golaghat Regional Students’ Union today started a week long signature campaign demanding solutions to various problems of Golaghat town. Acting on a tip off the 142 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force stationed at Merapani along the Assam-Nagaland interstate border in Golaghat district, led by commandant Vishrant Kumar, today seized two trucks bearing registration nos.
