Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Senior IPS officer Khagen Sarma on Friday took over as new director general of police replacing JN Chaudhury who is set to join as NSG director on Saturday.Chaudhury, the former IB additional IB director handed over the charge to Sarma at a brief function at the Assam police headquarters in the afternoon in presence of top ranked police officials.Chief minister Tarun Gogoi a few days back confirmed Sarma’s promotion as new DGP after the state security advisory council shortlisted his name along with three other senior IPS officers.

KMSS leaders are all set to hold a crucial meeting with social activist Medha Patkar in New Delhi on Thursday.The meeting assumes significance a day before Patkar’s preparedness to join the Aam Admi Party at a function on Friday.The three member KMSS delegation led by its president Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday arrived in the capital to attend the meeting in the afternoon.  KMSS sources, however, told assamtimes that Patkar is likely to urge Gogoi and his  organization to join AAP and lead the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Sources said that Akhil Gogoi is averse to join politics for the time being.
The National Human Rights Commission has sought reports from Assam and Nagaland DGPs on the recent recovery of nine bodies in Dimapur. The rights panel has asked for the reports within four weeks.On the other hand, Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is set to recommend a high level probe either by CBI or NIA into the entire incident.
