Guwahati Don Bosco celebrates Rongali Bihu
The 8th Don Bosco Rongali Bihu Utsav was inaugurated on the morning of May 16, 2013 at the Don Bosco Bihutoli at the school playground at Panbazar. The chief guest for the occasion was Padmashree Nrityacharya Guru Jatin Goswami, who lit the ceremonial lamp along with school principal Fr. Antony Thekkel, school administrator Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, school vice-principal Fr. Xavier Beck along with other distinguished guests.
The chief guest also released the 51st issue of the school magazine – The Bosconian. This was followed by the rendition of Sreemoyee Asomi by the school students, followed by some foot tapping Bihu dances by the participants of the 10-day long Bihu workshop (May 6-May 15) that preceded the Bihu Utsav.
Prior to this, school administrator Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, in his speech harped upon the importance of Bihu as a festival that unites people from the entire length and breadth of Assam. An inter school Bihu Nritya competition was also held among six city schools, namely Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti School, Happy Child School, Faculty Higher Secondary School, Gurukul Grammar School, South Point School and St. Mary’s School.
The first, second and third places went to Gurukul Grammar School, Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti and Faculty Higher Secondary School respectively. The competition was judged by Prabin Saikia, Minu Bania and Anuj Kumar Bishaya. The two-day Rongali Bihu Utsav would conclude tomorrow (May 17) with a cultural evening, where various artists would perform including Angaraag Mahanta (Papon).

Assam government has made compulsory use of seat belt in all types of vehicles.The government has also directed to ensure fitment of seat belt in all types of passenger vehicles including buses by April 15, 2015. Further, no one can sell or handover any vehicle to any customer without pre-fitted seat belt device.
