Sibasagar police has arrested four individual for alleged links with ULFA. Among them three individuals are from Sibasagar and one from Moran. The individuals have been arrested for assisting in collection and supplying huge amount of money to ULFA. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mr Pradeep from Nivedon Stores, Mr Radheshyam from Apsara Store and another all hailing from Sibasagar and Mr Bikash Agarwal from Moran. Ironically while on the one hand ULFA is threatening North Indians to leave Assam at the same time we find them also assisting the ULFA.

Nasscoms had launched the Assessment and Certification Programme (NAC) for the BPO sector which is a great success. Nasscom is now in the process of launching a similar testing and accreditation offer, NAC Tech, for the IT services, according to Mr Kiran Karnik, Chairman of Nasscom. The NAC was launched as a pilot last year for the BPO sector to ensure transformation of a “trainable” workforce into an “employable” workforce. Imphal: Assam Rifles has been directed by the Gauhati High Court to pay Rs 3.5 Lakhs as compensation to the family of Athkokpam Purnima Singh who died in police custody in September 2001. The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has withdrawn from the economic blockade of Nagaland that they had taken up jointly with the AJYCP, the All Adivasi Students Union and the Gorkha Association.
