Jorhat Civil Hospital ranks top in the highest Birth-rate in entire India.

The old and famous Civil Hospital of Jorhat “JONONAYAK DEBESWAR SARMA AOSAMORIK CHIKITCHALAY” is on its way to establish a new record. According to an inter-country survey by the Health department of the Central Government, Jorhat Civil Hospital has recorded the highest number of Birth-Rates in entire India. C.O.R.T, a branch of the Central Government has provided statistics to prove these facts. According to the survey, in the year 2005-06, the number of home born babies was 6775, at dispensaries 1943 and at Hospitals 5164. That meant that the total number of babies born in the Hospital was only 7107. But in the year 2006-07, number of home born babies reduced to 5561 and the ones born in the Hospital increased to 10035 out of which 6317 were born in Dispensaries and 3718 in Hospitals. In the months of April-May 2007, the number of home borns was only 634 and the Hospital borns increased to 1600. Recently L.S. Chensang, the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Medical Officer of Jorhat was awarded a prize by the Health Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for the significant achievement.
