Jorhat Civil Hospital ranks top in the highest Birth-rate in entire India.

The old and famous Civil Hospital of Jorhat “JONONAYAK DEBESWAR SARMA AOSAMORIK CHIKITCHALAY” is on its way to establish a new record. According to an inter-country survey by the Health department of the Central Government, Jorhat Civil Hospital has recorded the highest number of Birth-Rates in entire India. C.O.R.T, a branch of the Central Government has provided statistics to prove these facts. According to the survey, in the year 2005-06, the number of home born babies was 6775, at dispensaries 1943 and at Hospitals 5164. That meant that the total number of babies born in the Hospital was only 7107. But in the year 2006-07, number of home born babies reduced to 5561 and the ones born in the Hospital increased to 10035 out of which 6317 were born in Dispensaries and 3718 in Hospitals. In the months of April-May 2007, the number of home borns was only 634 and the Hospital borns increased to 1600. Recently L.S. Chensang, the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Medical Officer of Jorhat was awarded a prize by the Health Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for the significant achievement.

Historical drama Bagh Hazarika staged at Nazira

Ramdhenu Drama Troup of Hahsora staged the historical drama, “Bagh Hazarika” at Nazira Natya Mandir on February 11. The drama which is written by Jitu Jyoti Gayan, a young dramatist of 30 years of age, directed by Anup Borpatra Gohain, Jeto Bon Boruah and Jhahnobi Saikia.


Before staging the drama, a felicitation program, in which noted dramatist, director Rofikul Hussain and Pradip Kumar Das, Civil SDO, Nazira, present as special guest and inaugurator. The special show was organised by Nazira Natya Samiti, Nazira Traders Association, All Tai Ahom Students Union, All Tea Tribe Students Association, Assam Jatiyota Badi Yuba Chatra Parishad.



4 charred to death in Golaghat

Four people were charred to death and 25 others injured sustained injury when their houses caught fire which oozed from a gas tanker in Golaghat district on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday early morning in Rangoliting village beside the National Highway 37 where the fire erupted from gas leakage to ravage 20 roadside houses.

Bimal Bhuyan, his wife and daughter were charred to death after they were trapped inside the house. One of their neighbours succumbed to injury on the way to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Later experts from the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) came and brought the situation under control.

Anna Hazare’s supporters’ rock Kharsing Engti’s home town

Supporting the Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement, the people of entire the Howraghat area took out candle rally on Tuesday evening at Assam HAD Minister, Kharsing Engti’s home town Howraghat. It may be mentioned here that along with joining of common people, large numbers of Kharsing Engti’s supporters appeared coming out to the street and joined in the Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement taking candle lights and banners defying their party protocols. From the point of view, it is clear that people are now completely indifferent against the massive corruptions are on in the Country. It needs to be mentioned here that taking out rally by the Congress supporters against corruption is the first time in Howraghat.
