Felicitation of Sankari artists on May 5

Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva was formed to spread the universal message and glory of Srimanta Sankaradeva all over the world and to do all such things that may be necessary to be done for that purpose, in a cultured manner. One of the objectives of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva is to accord recognition to litterateurs and artists for their serious original works on and about Srimanta Sankaradeva. So the Society has now decided to felicitate dedicated Sankari artists for their immense contribution to Sankari Art and Culture. The first phase of felicitation will take place on May 5 in Jorhat Press Club. The eight artists selected from upper Assam  for felicitation in the 1st phase are the following:

Kanuram Bora (76), Joraguri, Rongamati, P.S. Dergaon, Golaghat district.
Expert in Sankari Art, Mukha making, Stage settings of Bhaona. Promoting Bhaona among tea garden community of Rongamati Area.

Jogen Dutta Bayan (68), Uttar Kamalabari Sattra, Majuli.
Expert in Sankari Sangeet.

Jatin Mahanta (63), Nangalamara Katanipar Sattra, Simaluguri.
Expert in Sankari Art, sculpture, profile, Mukha making, Asan making.

Lakshan Pathak (Saikia) (55), Natun Kamalabari Sattra, Majuli.
Expert in Sankari Art, Handicraft, Dye, Aharjya, Sculpture, Mukha making, Gayan-Bayan, Pathak, Bhaona.

Hem Chandra Goswami (57), Chamaguri Sattra, Majuli.
Expert in Sankari Art, Sculpture, Mukha making, Mukha Bhaona. Conducted workshops and trained people in many places all over Assam.

Girin Mahanta (54), Namrup, Dibrugarh district (Kakajan Sipaha Sattra, Jorhat).
Expert in Sankari Art and Culture, Gayan-Bayan, Bhaona, Khanikar, Sankari Sangeet, Cement Sculpture, Aharjya making, Khol making, Guru Asan making.

Gopal Bora (48), Missamora, Dergaon.
Expert in Sankari Art, Mukha making, Stage settings of Bhaona. Performed in many places all over Assam.

Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva took part in the first ever 'Make in India Week' in Mumbai held on February 13-18. A seven-member team displayed production of Aharya of Ankiya Bhaona there. National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC), Bangalore  has accorded ‘A’ grade to Anandaram Dhekial Phookan College, Nagaon, a premier institution of higher education in Assam.
