Book on Hmar history released
Under the aegis of Hmar Literature Society (Hmar Sahityua Sabha) a book titled ‘History of The Hmars in North East India’ ( with special reference to Assam ) authored by Rev Hrilrokhum Thiek was released in a simple but solemn function held on Tuesday at the C H Khotlang Memorial at Moulhoi near Haflong.
Language, Culture and Literature always considered being the parameter of a civilized advance community or Nation, the Hmar community has marched ahead in this field of Literature. Meanwhile they have introduced books in Hmar language in schools and colleges.
Attending the function Dr V L T Bapui, a renowned educationist and litterateur disclosed that though the government has introduced the Hmar language in schools and colleges but there has been shortage of teachers and now The Hmar Literature Society has been paying the honorarium to the teachers. He appealed to the government ‘it would be a very good step for the government if the salaries of the teachers teaching hmar language in schools and college were bearded by the government’.
In this function correspondent of the Assam Tribune and Sangbad Lahari and N E TV, Sri Anup Biswas and Sri Pankaj Deb were felicited by the author of ‘History of The Hmars in North East India’ ( with special reference to Assam ) Rev Hrilrokhum Thiek with his book.

With the casting of 80% plus of votes in the polling to the 11th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council election passed off peacefully and with great enthusiasm among the people of Dima Hasao District.
Right from the morning 7 am, people were seen in long queue at almost all the polling stations in and around Haflong. In the morning casting of votes was 27 % which increased gradually. A total of 120754 numbers of voters were to cast their votes in 200 polling station which was divided in to ten zones like Haflong, Dehangi, Langting, Mahur, Harangajao, Maibang, Umrangso Diyungbra, Khepre and Jinam and constituencies are 28 . The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission on Saturday will hear a petition challenging Assam State Electricity Board’s move to hike in power tariff.
