Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

Big dam consignment!

Four burgers carrying a huge consignment on the river Brahmaputra seems to have generated no less anxiety among the big dam protesters across the state.Amid tight security, the burgers were seen leaving towards Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday morning at the Pandu Ghat in Guwahati amid speculations of NHPC authority’s fresh attempt to procure big dam turbines.But the security personnel guarding the burgers are tightlipped on the consignment. However, there was no confirmation on the consignment and destination.    

Fresh tension in Bihali

Tension is simmering again in Bihali in Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh after police recovered four bodies inside the forest area on Saturday.All the four persons have been remaining traceless since the Chauldhuwa episode where Arunachal Pradesh miscreants shoot dead 11 local villagers in January 29.They were believed to have been shot dead recently a more than a month before they were held in captivity. The bodies were identified as Burha Teron, Bishoy Teron, Maneswar Munda and Kancha.

BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the Bangladeshis are posing serious threat to India.In his address at a hug rally in Silchar, Modi said that if he is voted to power, he would wind up the detention camp. He further said that the D voters should be given rights to participate in the poll process.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday pledged to protect Arunachal Pradesh if the BJP-led government is restored at the Centre.In his address at the huge rally in Pasighat, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate said that New Delhi is bound to protect the frontier state amid repeated threat by China. He further said that any Chinse aggression move must be resisted.

New industrial policy out

The Assam Government on Saturday announced a set of new industrial policy.Addressing a press conference in Dispur, industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi said that the policy would thrust small scale industries.He further said that industries on nonagricultural plots would be encouraged. But in the same breath, Bordoloi said that agricultural plots won’t be utilized for any industrial purpose.
