Dispur pins hopes on Chetia

Dispur is waiting for Anup Cheita’s extradition to boost the peace process with ULFA.

In his response to a question on ULFA-government process, minister Rockybul Hussian on behalf of the home department informed the House on Monday that process was on to bring the jailed ULFA general secretary back from Bangladesh. He said that altogether 12 insurgent outfits operating in Assam have agreed to strike peace deal with the government.

Waterbird Census in Pobitora Records 56 Species, 8,200 Individuals

The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam's Marigaon district is known for its high density of one-horned rhinoceros and is also an important habitat for various bird species. The Guwahati Wildlife Division of the Assam Forest Department and biodiversity conservation organization Aaranyak recently conducted the third annual waterbird census at the sanctuary.
