District Inter school tournament at Haflong

With the hoisting of flag in presence of Executive Member, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Bakul Bodo, Principals and Head Masters of several schools of Dima Hasao, the Chief Executive Member Debojeet Thaosen inaugurated the District Inter school winter tournament central meet held at District Sports Association’s playground, Haflong on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion Council Bakul Bodo, EM, DHAC, i/c medical and the Chief Guest Sri Debojeet Thaosen, CEM, DHAC stressed importance of sports along with the studies while appreciating the enthusiasm of the participants. They said ‘this was an indication that the peace was returning to the district gradually’. They also appealed to the participants as well as the student’s community to devote more in their study and sports also for their all round development.

All together 300 students from 52 schools of the district took part in the tournament which will last for 22nd and 23 March, 2013. The tournament was organized by the inspectorate of schools, Dima Hasao dividing into eight zones.

Speaking to this correspondent, Lalit ch Kanwar, team convener disclosed that, earlier there was provision for 30/35 students in a team but seeing the enthusiasm they had to increase the strength to 40 per team. Kanwar admitted that the enthusiasm in sports among the students is increasing day by day and students of the district of Dima Hasao have been doing very well in sports as the department of sports has been giving more and emphasis on sports now a days.

The Assam Rifles troops averted a major security breach when they recovered and defused a grenade in Haflong town on Friday morning stated AR press release. Troops of Haflong based Assam Rifles unit were on routine area domination patrol when at approx 6 am they found a live hand grenade on the road side near Synod point. The grenade could have caused serious injuries to innocent commuters including women & children including loss of lives.
