The district level Aryabhatta science based competition organized by Udalguri district administration concluded on March 19 at Sankardeb Mission High School with day long programme. Mihir Kumar Baruah ADC,Udalguri inaugurated the competition at 11 AM. On the occasion he requested teachers and students to come forward to avail various science programmes launched by government.Sixty numbers of child scientists from six blocks namely- Kalaigaon, Khoirabari, Bhergaon, Udalguri, Rowta, Mazbat participated in the district level science competition. It needs mention that block level science based model, science based extempore speech and science based poster drawing competitions were organised in all the six blocks prior to the district level competition. And students who had won first three places in each category were only allowed to participate in the district level competitions.

Thaneswar Malakar,DC,Udalguri attended the prize distribution at 2 PM as the chief guest. On the occasion he congratulated participants and winners. He requested them to take interest in science activities.He said that such science based competitions could very much help to bring out inner creativity of students. He advised students and teachers to use scientific experiments for the benefit of common people living in the villages. Results: In the science model competition- Rodali Das and Diksha Devi (Arunodoi Academy,Tangla) won first, Meenakshi Dutta and Dibyarupa Rabha (Maharishi Vidya Mandir,Tangla) second prizes; in science based extempore spech competition- Deepanand Basumatari (Arunodoi Academy,Tangla) won first,Pankaj Sarmah (Orang HS School) won second prises while Prastuti Parashar (Lokapriya Bordoloi Public School,Kalaigaon) and Kalyani Rabha (Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Tangla) won first two places. All the winners will represent Udalguri district in the All Assam Aryabhatta science competitions to be held at Silpagram,Guwahati on April 3 and 4.The state level meet will be organised by Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC) Guwahati.

Kalaigaon Tangla students excel in HS

People of Kalaigaon have expressed satisfaction at the good performance of students in the HS examination conducted by AHSEC and CBSE although both the places have been hit hard by frequent bandhs. In the CBSE class X examination,students of Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya,Kalaigaon did exceedingly well with 100 percent success. All of 73 appeared passed. Ramendra Sutradhar: a tribute

A most popular figure of Udalguri,Ramendra Sutradhar is no more. His tragic end came in the morning of 27th May, Sunday. While he was performing morning walk a speedy bike hit him hard and he was lost. Born on April 13,1951,he did his primary schooling at Udalguri near Angragaon.He passed his matriculation from Barpeta H.S School and B.Sc from Darrang College. 4 die while installing motor at Dimakuchi

In a tragic accident four persons namely -Siddique Ali (23) of Kalaigaon; Bijoy Rajbongshi (35), Hari Rajbongshi (30) and Gauranga Mondol (43) of Dimakuchi under Dimakuchi police station died in a tragic mishap to day at around 3.30 PM. According to information,all of them died while installing a water motor in a well of Ninanha Khaklari (38) of Dimakuchi.All the four died due to lack of oxygen inside the well.It needs mention that all the three went into the well to rescue Siddique Ali, who had went down to a already dug well for collecting a remaining pipe of the motor.The incident has caused sorrow in the district.

30 thousand tree planted near India-Bhutan border

A massive tree plantation programme was arranged at Nonai in Khalingduar Reserve Forest near India-Bhutan border on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day. Nearly 400 people planted almost 30,000 saplings.The programme was sponsored jointly by Dhansiri Forest Division,Udalguri and BPF Bhergaon district committee in association with SSB camp,Nonai and Green Valley Forest and Wildlife Protection Society,Nonai. Killing of wild animals continues in Udalguri

Wildlife loving people of Udalguri district have expressed serious concern at the alarming growing rate of killing and injuring wild animals and birds in the district.As a result of unabated destruction of forest cover and encroachment on forest lands,particularly near Indo-Bhutan border,wild animals including elephants have started roaming human settlements once belonged to them.As per information received from villagers residing near Indo-Bhutan border,a wild deer had recently been killed by villagers of Section No.5 of Hattigarh tea garden. Tuskers retaliate firing in Khalingduar RF

More than hundred wild elephants attacked the Central Nursery of forest department at Switch Gate near Compartment No.4.inside Khalingduar Reserve Forest in Udalguri district last night causing extensive damage to the buildings and walls under construction. Interestingly,a few wild elephants had been roaming in the nursery the previous night on May 14.In order to chase them away forest personal resorted to firing causing minor injury to some of the herd.Being teased that way all the wild elephants numbering more than hundred attacked forest personal in retaliation forcing them to retreat to the range office.
