Deplorable condition of Assam-Nagaland border area

The government has claimed to be spending huge amount of money for development of the Assam-Nagaland border areas. But the real development is far away. People in the remote area of Gelakey border areas are living in a deplorable condition; Lahdoigarh, Sunapur, Borhollah, Singibill etc. of Gelakey border areas under Nazira sub-division are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of proper road, bridge, water, electricity etc. The so called Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme is not able to reach these areas till today.

Nagaland has already occupied over 1000 Bighas of forest land of Assam. They have set-up one polling station at Borhollah in their recently held general election. According to the villagers of these areas, till today there is no any clear distinction or sign between the cadastral revenue village and forest-land in the border areas.

To prevent the Naga aggression in Gelakey border the state govt. set-up 3 nos. og  BOPs (Border Out Post) at Singibill, Borhollah and Sunapur in 2007, but till today the quantity of battalions in these three BOPs are not adequate and the battalions who deployed here are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of basic amenities like drinking water, light and infrastructure. The tube-well of Borhollah BOP is the only source of drinking water of entire Borhollah Village.

A new Anchalik AASU Committe of Nazira was formed in a general meeting on November Sunday. Hemanto Saikia and Sakir Ahmed were selected as the president and secretary of the committee. A group of local residents of Nazira has formed a society called "Human Welfare Society" with a 13-member committee. P.C. Baruah and Md. Nasar Khan were selected as the President and General Secretary of the Society. The group has been extending their services since last 2006 for medical treatment to mentally retired persons n Nazira sub-division apart from other social welfare works.
Pragati Maina Parijat, Nazira organised a 15-day Children's Drama Workshop on July1 to 15, 2012 at Srimanta Sankardev Sanghs Namghar. More than 70 children took part in the workshop. In the concluding day, on on July 15 all the children staged a drama. Wellknown artist Netriyachaya, Padmashri Jatin Gushwami were present and he appriciated the efforts of the organisers.

Lakuwa reporter of Guwahati-based television chanel DY365, was physically assaulted by some miscreants at Bihubar, Nazira on Tuesday. They brutally attacked him and smash his camera. Different organisations including the Press Guild of Simaluguri, Nazira District Journalist Association, AASU, AJYCP, Amar Kotha Group, NGO PRAGATI etc. condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest of culprits.
Voter list preparation with photo identifiction card is going on at Nazira sub-division. In this connection the administration organised a training programme from March 12 to 14, where 11 nos. Assistant Registers and 3 Nos Special Supervisor were participated. P.K.Das S.D.O.(Civil), Nazira sub division and Anil Das, election officer of Nazira requested the all trainees to work sincerly in preperation the voter list.
International Women Day observed by NGO Pragati and Pragoti Mahila Mancha at Nazira Natya Mandir on March 8. In this occation a seminer was held on "Epual Rights of Women". Manika Saikia former vice principal of Sivasagar College, Nondeshwari Buraguhain, Advocate Ajit Hazarika, Mintu Borah, Sonjiv Borah etc. were presesent. Four senior Women and two distinguished persons were felicitated in the function.
