One Arjun Chowdhury aged 30 was seriously injured, when a group comprising six persons armed with ‘daw’ knife and stick entered the compartment No NFGS 2470 just next to the escort compartment of Down Agartala Express in the midnight of Wednesday to loot the passenger of the train near Migrengdisa Railway station. Chowdhury who tried to prevent the dacoit, they cut off his ear. He was later brought to the Haflong Civil Hospital.
The dacoits looted the valuables, cash including mobile sets etc. of the passengers and also physically assaulted them, who were in the compartment.
It is alleged that the escort party in train who were supposed to protect the passengers and railway property utterly failed to do so as they reportedly remain busy otherwise.
Meanwhile, the GRP, Lumding suspended the six GRP personals that were on duty on the day of dacoity.
Sri Anil Kumar, Assistant Station Master, Lower Haflong talking to this correspondent, said it was really a unfortunate incident that the miscreants could carry their nefarious activities like looting and torturing the passengers in a compartment which was the very next to that compartment in which GRP personals were travelling .
Sri Tugul Boro, in charge of Lower Haflong RPF/GRP revealed that a case has been registered at Lumding Police Station since the area falls under the its jurisdiction and an enquiry has also been initiated. He also said in a very short time, they will be able to nab the culprits. He further said for a long this area was free of such incidents but yesterday’s incident has caused concern.
Meanwhile, all the six persons of escort party were placed under suspension for the negligence of their duty.
