ERDF felicitates senior citizens

Every year the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) honors eminent personalities of the state in recognition of their contribution in different fields to mark the advent of New Year. This year ERDF selected some senior citizens of the state to wish good health and long life so that they can continue their service to the society.

The 2013 edition of the felicitation programme was held at the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) for ten senior citizens. The function began with welcome address of the dignitaries to the Dais by N I Laskar, Director, Corporate Communication ERDF. Dr H K Baruah, Director (Academics), ERDF welcomed the guests. Felicitation of guests began with Nirupama Borgohain, Abdul Mazeed, Prof. Md. Taher, Abdul Malik , H N Das, Abdul Khaleque Mazumder, B K Nath, D N Barua, Hareswar Das and D N Singh.

Dr N K Choudhury, Principal Adviser, ERDF addressed the dignitaries followed by Dr A C Bhagabati, former Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University A.P

Nirupama Borgohain released two books, namely, ‘Janmadin’ authored by Dr Dinesh Baishya and ‘Paloiya-Pathar’ by Devajit Saikia. Later on the dignitaries expressed their views and the functions concluded after vote of thanks by N I Laskar.

The Education Research and Development Foundation is the largest institutional network in the Northeastern region catering education from KG to PG by running two CBSE affiliated schools, two professional colleges viz. Central IT College and Regional College of Higher Education, one engineering college Regional Institute of Science & Technology and one University, the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.

Amid total and peaceful bandh the Tarun Gogoi government on Saturday observed its first anniversary of the third term where Congress president Sonia Gandhi praised the Chief minister. In a mammoth rally at the Sarusajai stadium, Gandhi urged the ULFA’s anti-talk faction to join the national mainstream. A 27 years old youth was found dead at Landakhunda village, bordering Assam-Meghalaya, under Dhupdhara police station in Goalpara district early in the morning today. The youth was shot dead by unidentified gunmen as two marks of bullet holes on his chest. The body was found lying on a village road with both of his hands were tightened with his own shirt. National Investigation Agency got remand of Maoist leader Indranil Chandra, alias Ajay Das for seven days after he was produced before a special court in Guwahati on Wednesday. Chandra, who heads Maoist offensive in Assam, was brought to Guwahati from Kolkata where he was recently arrested. He was produced in a NIA designated court in Guwahati and remanded to seven days of NIA custody. Chandra, hailing from Burdwan district of West Bengal, had visited the state several times to coordinate with the local Maoist cadres. The Assam government is set to launch a mega project to reclaim the land the state lost over the years because of erosion. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced it on Wednesday in Sualkuchi where he said that a pilot project is in the pipeline to reclaim the eroded land . He said it will be a first of its kind project as part of the efforts to stop erosion. He hoped that the pilot project to be implemented within six months and if the project is found successful the same technology would be applicable across the erosion-hit state.
