Change of ownership of Hautoly TE creates tension

Tension is about to brew in Hautoly Tea Estate in Golaghat district on account of transfer of ownership. As per the information the Tea Estate is presently being managed by Moradhar Tea Co. Ltd and in the meantime Golaghat unit of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) has allegedly handed over the management of the T.E. to Squae Co. Ltd. The takeover of the T.E. was
made without the knowledge of the labourers. Majority of the labourers opposed the takeover by the new management and demanded the continuation by former management and have warned the new management against entering the garden. Meanwhile the district administration has imposed 144 in order to prevent any untoward incident. Till the filing of this report the situation is still tense.
