Policeman killed in Haflong

Tension prevails in and around Haflong following the killing of one Lohit Nath, 36, Assam Police jawan known as biker was killed by unidentified gunman near Lungkhok village on the Haflong-Lanka road, some 6 km from Haflong on Saturday morning. In a Search operation, Police and Army recovered 10 rounds of live and 6 nos of empty cartages from the place of occurrence.


It is leant that when late Nath along with three others returning after a routine checking, the miscreants suddenly fired at the biker team following which Nath died on the spot.


Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao Sri Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta immediately rushed to the spot and launched combing operation in and around to nab the culprits. Though no organisation claimed the responsibility till the filing of this report, police suspected the NSCN (IM) hand behind the incident.


Mention may be made here that only three days back suspected NSCN (IM) ambushed army convoy near P. Leikul on Mahur – Laisong road killing one and injured several others.
