As in the past, this year too Kaziranga Wildlife Society (KWLS)confer its Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2012 on a worthy achiever from the state Dr. Padmeswar Gogoi, whose contributions to the cause of environment and wildlife are considered to be of outstanding value. Dr. Gogoi born on 1948, has done his masters in Botanical Science joined D.R. College and remained there till his retirement. Dr. Gogoi apart from his other brilliant achievements, has singlehandedly setup a herbarium in the Mahi Miri Research Centre, at kohora, where samples of all herbs species found in Kaziranga and its vicinity are preserved for posterity. The presentation ceremony was held today at the conference hall of Golaghat municipal Board. The ceremony was presided over by Indrajit Dutta, President of KWLS and Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat Sanjib Gohain Barua was presented as a guest of honour. The entire programme was co-ordinated by Rakhi Saikia, Executive Member of KWLS.
The KWLS also felicitated Jadav Payeng, the architect of Molaikathonoi or better known as Forest Man of India, who sustained the arduous resolve of creating a forest with all its natural attributes, on the southern water front of mighty Brahmaputra at Kokilamukh, some 17 km north-west of Jorhat. It took him years of ceaseless vigil and equal amount of toil to accomplish his mission.
