Musical night at Umrangso

As a never before Gesture at Umrangso, the Haflong based Assam Rifles Battalion filled the night of October 14 with music and colours. The Battalion organized a Cultural programme cum Dance Night at Kalibari Mandir in Umrangso. The programme which was organized to mark the beginning of the festive season got wide publicity across Umrangso sub Division till some places as far as Karbi Anglong.


The theme of the event was western & Hip Hop Dance for which a preliminary audition was conducted on 12 Oct 12 to shortlist the participants for performing on the day of function. Out of 105 participants, 21 were short listed to perform on 14 Oct 12. The large gathering of audience was thrilled to see the amazing performances by the participants. This event was also seen as a platform for the people of this region to showcase their talent. In the end, the Commandant of Haflong based Assam Rifles Battalion felicitated the winner of the competition. The entire audience thanked the Battalion for organizing such a fabulous event which has never been organized before.

Dima Hasao Police arrested one Karunakanta Medhi aged 55 years of Pathsala in Barpeta district from a hotel at Haflong on Tuesday. The first engine of a goods train bound for Lumding fell down in river near Dautuhaja Railway Station on Saturday at about 5.30 pm as the driver of the train violating the signal proceeded with heavy speed. Both driver and his assistant received injuries and shifted to Lumding.
