Warm welcome to DHD (J) leaders


The people of Dima Hasao district accorded overwhelming and warm welcome to the leaders of Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) at various places of Dima Hasao on their way back to Haflong from Guwahati, on Tuesday.


At Haflong, the main celebration of victorious event ‘ signing of MoS’ was organised at the Liaison Office located at Sarkari Bagan. Despite continuous rain, right from morning people were seen gathering at the Liaison office to celebrate the historic moment with the leaders of DHD (J).


As soon as the team of DHD (J) leaders comprising Jewel Gorlosa, Niranjan Hojai, David Dimasa, Daniel Dimasa, Phaiphrang Dimasa, Daku Dimasa along with representative from various communities and the leaders of several civil societies reached at Sarkari Bagan at about 9 pm on Tuesday, thousands of people who were waiting since long despite rain began storming flowers on them shouting ‘DHD (J)-Jindabad, Dima Hasao Autonomous Territorial Council—Jindabad.’ Etc. etc.


In fact this signing of peace accord was a historic moment for the people of Dima Hasao district.


In this connection, a well attended meeting was also held at the Liaison office campus wherein all the leaders of DHD (J) and others were felicitated with flowers and traditional items by the representatives of various tribes and communities living in the district.


30 seconds silence was observed in honour of departed souls of all cadres officials of DHD(J) who have sacrificed their lives in this struggle.


Sri Niranajn Hojai in his introductory speech explained some clauses of the accord and appealed to all to support them implementing the accord in letter and spirit. There will be no discrimination to any one; each and every citizen of Dima Hasao district will get the same benefit and same rights. He also hoped that under the leadership of DHD (J) the will be far more than that of other leaders. He claimed ‘he and his team always think better for the other communities living in the district’.


Sri Daniel Dimasa, said he is very much capable of solving the problems while claiming his confidence on DHD(J) leaders for the all round development of the district.


Sri Dethang Naiding, President, Jadikhe Naisho Hosom, said this MoS was the fruit of DHD(J)’s struggle for the people of the Dima Hasao district, therefore all the people irrespective of caste, creed, religion living in the district have the right to get the equal and justified benefits.


Sri Jewel Gorlosa, Chairman, DHD (J) appealed to all the people of Dima Hasao to come closer to the DHD (J) so that a integrated society could be made for the all round development of the district keeping in mind the future of our next generation. ‘This is almost Article 244 (A) in the shape of Dima Hasao Autonomous Territorial Council which was the demand of DHD (J) and the people of Dima Hasao. This MoS is the precious one for the people of Dima Hasao, there fore we the people of Dima Hasao should take every advantage of this MoS, sharing with the DHD (J) leaders. He further appealed to all the people of Dima Hasao not to be misunderstood with this accord rather come forward for the appropriate implementation of this accord.


Furthermore, he disclosed that his first priority of works would be the immediate and proper rehabilitation of his cadres.


Sri Gorlosa offered his heartfelt gratitude to all organisations and individuals for their support to their age-old struggle for the Dima Hasao. He also offered his hailed the Government of India, Government of Assam and all the officials for the initiative taken for this MoS.

With the casting of 80% plus of votes in the polling to the 11th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council election passed off peacefully and with great enthusiasm among the people of Dima Hasao District.
