65th Foundation Day of College of Veterinary Science

The 65TH Foundation Day of the College of Veterinary Science (C.V.Sc.), Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara was celebrated with pomp and gaiety on 18th August 2012 with a day long programme. The programme started with Flag Hoisting by Dr. R. N. Goswami, Dean, C.V.Sc. followed by “Swahid Tarpan and an impressive cultural procession by students, teachers and employees of the college. In his flag hosting speech Dr. R. N. Goswami, presented before the gathering the historical perspective, growth and development and the achievements of the college in acting as an instrument of change of social and economic status of the society. He appealed all the faculties, employees and students to work hard with dedication so as to fulfill the cherished dreams of the founders and also to meet the aspirations of the people of North East.


The Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University on the topic “Educating the Educators – A step towards knowledge society in animal science”. In his speech Dr. Bujarbaruah emphasized the bigger role of teachers in the creation of knowledge society in the 21st century- the century of knowledge. He deliberated upon the need of change of mind set of teaching community and adoption of technology in augmenting teaching-learning process. He opined that a teacher should be a living encyclopedia at least in regards to his discipline. While encouraging the students by projecting a bright future of animal husbandry and veterinary in India, he pointed out that it is the young people, who constitute majority of the populace in the country, and it is they who will have to make road for themselves to reach their destiny and the destiny of the nation.


On the occasion, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, gave away the Late Dr. G.N. Dutta memorial Best Graduate Award 2012 to Dr. Arup Das.


Earlier in the day, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah was felicitated by the Faculty of Veterinary science and its different establishments, the member of Board of Management and by various associations and unions including the Assam Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (Vety. Faculty), College of Veterinary Science Students’ Union and Employees Associations expressing their pride and pleasure at the receipt of Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa conferred upon him by the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar in its 32nd Convocation on 28th July 2012 for outstanding contribution towards the development of regional and national agriculture.


Two other important events of the day are the inauguration of the recently upgraded Gymnasium hall of the college and release of the College anthem by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.


In the evening a colorful cultural programme was organized jointly by the teachers, scientists, employees and students of the college. Among others, the video presentation of the historical perspective of the college and the theme song – ‘Unity Song, North East’ presented by the students were highly applauded.


Sri Kabin Deka, an ex-employee of the college inaugurated the campus illumination programme.

Noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang has been elected the new president of Asom Sahitya Sabha on Sunday. The announcement to this effect was made by the state’s largest literary body came up at the Bhgawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati after the counting of votes sent by the district bodies ended. Kanak Chandra Sarma will be vice president while Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi has been elected as the secretary of the literary body. A nine member CBI team on Sunday visited the blast sites in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta Road as part of the initial probe into the October 30 serial bombing. Led by DIG P Kamraj, the CBI team has already visited the blast sites in the city of Guwahati. The team visited all the three blast sites in Kokrajhar where 20 died and 60 others injured. They visited Kokrajhar municipality office premises and saw the heap of mangled vehicles in the blast. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi says the work on the national register of citizens in Assam is nearing an end.Addressing press conference in Dispur on Saturday, Gogoi said the state government is waiting for the Centre’s nod to upgrade the modalities.
