65th Foundation Day of College of Veterinary Science

The 65TH Foundation Day of the College of Veterinary Science (C.V.Sc.), Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara was celebrated with pomp and gaiety on 18th August 2012 with a day long programme. The programme started with Flag Hoisting by Dr. R. N. Goswami, Dean, C.V.Sc. followed by “Swahid Tarpan and an impressive cultural procession by students, teachers and employees of the college. In his flag hosting speech Dr. R. N. Goswami, presented before the gathering the historical perspective, growth and development and the achievements of the college in acting as an instrument of change of social and economic status of the society. He appealed all the faculties, employees and students to work hard with dedication so as to fulfill the cherished dreams of the founders and also to meet the aspirations of the people of North East.


The Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University on the topic “Educating the Educators – A step towards knowledge society in animal science”. In his speech Dr. Bujarbaruah emphasized the bigger role of teachers in the creation of knowledge society in the 21st century- the century of knowledge. He deliberated upon the need of change of mind set of teaching community and adoption of technology in augmenting teaching-learning process. He opined that a teacher should be a living encyclopedia at least in regards to his discipline. While encouraging the students by projecting a bright future of animal husbandry and veterinary in India, he pointed out that it is the young people, who constitute majority of the populace in the country, and it is they who will have to make road for themselves to reach their destiny and the destiny of the nation.


On the occasion, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, gave away the Late Dr. G.N. Dutta memorial Best Graduate Award 2012 to Dr. Arup Das.


Earlier in the day, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah was felicitated by the Faculty of Veterinary science and its different establishments, the member of Board of Management and by various associations and unions including the Assam Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (Vety. Faculty), College of Veterinary Science Students’ Union and Employees Associations expressing their pride and pleasure at the receipt of Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa conferred upon him by the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar in its 32nd Convocation on 28th July 2012 for outstanding contribution towards the development of regional and national agriculture.


Two other important events of the day are the inauguration of the recently upgraded Gymnasium hall of the college and release of the College anthem by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.


In the evening a colorful cultural programme was organized jointly by the teachers, scientists, employees and students of the college. Among others, the video presentation of the historical perspective of the college and the theme song – ‘Unity Song, North East’ presented by the students were highly applauded.


Sri Kabin Deka, an ex-employee of the college inaugurated the campus illumination programme.

Centre-DHD ceasefire extended

The government has extended its ceasefire with Dima Halom Daogah for yet another year. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of DHD representatives led by Dilip Nunisa with Central and state government officials in Delhi on Wednesday.Notably, that the Dimasa outfit, who has been struggling for a separate Dimasaland, signed its ceasefire pact with the Centre on December 26 in 2006. Major explosion misses Radhani Exp target

Hundreds of passengers at the Rajdhani Express got rid of a major tragedy when a powerful bomb missed the target at Matipul in Karbi Anglong district in the wee hours on Wednesday. According to information, the powerful explosion reportedly took place at Matipul in between Khotkhoti and Bokajan rail stations minutes after the Rajdhani Express bound for Guwahati passed the spot. The target was missed but the railway tracts were left heavily damaged. Top ranked police and railway officials arrived in the spot. The blast is suspected to be a handiwork of AANLA. Investigation is on.

Sahitya Academy award to 2 Assamese litterateurs

Noted litterateur and veteran novelist Dr Rita Chaudhury has been named for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award for his outstanding contribution to the field of literature. Dr Chaudhury, who has already authored Abirat Jatra, Mahajibanor Adharsila, Papiya Tarar Sadhu has recently made one more notable contribution by her Deolangkhui, a novel on the social life of the Tiwa people. Bodo writer Bidya Sagar Narzary was also selected for the same award for his work Birgwsrini Thungru.

Respected Editor,I spent more than two decades of my service life in North East India before settling down permanently in Bangalore. Recently the news of six communities demanding ST tag in Assam has bemused me. I have some amount of knowledge regarding the ethnic structure and demography of the region. One thing I discovered that student politics is a stumbling block to development in Assam and North East India. Infact, student politics has ruined the north-east and Assam. For the so called 'student' leaders, misleading communities and tribes have become a profession. The only group of people or community of Assam which is free from student based politics are the Kolitas or the Kalitas....

Programme on Aquatic Biodiversity

National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow in collaboration with North East Centre for Sustainable Development is going to organize a day long exploration – cum – awareness programme on 'Aquatic Biodiversity Conservation' on December 24 at Deepor Beel , Guwahati. The day long programme starts at 10 am in the morning. Scientists and experts related to fish shall attend the programme as resource person. Notorious drug mafia Pakhi Miyan alias Hazi Samsul Haque Talukdar who escapaed from judicial custody is remaining clueless even as police has placed three constables under suspension citing dereliction of duties. CBI team visits Guwahati blast site

The CBI tea probing the Assam serial blast visited the blast site at Panbazar on Monday. Led by DIG P Kamraj, the team has been camping in Guwahai to probe the incident that rocked Assam on October 30 where over 90 people lost their limbs. Another team of the agency yesterday visited the blast sites at Kokrajhar, Barpeta Road and Bongaigaon.
