All Assam Students Union has warned the government not to allow the immigrants to settle in the name of rehabilitation package. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Sunday, the AASU leaders said that they would keep a close vigil on the rehabilitation works to ensure that not even a single immigrant is allowed to get the benefit.

Bodo must look after themselves, do not fall to sweet talk of Gogoi, Sonia or Shinde. They will butcher Bodos for vote bank. We all know about AIUDF, a terrorist organization. Ajmal gets money from ISI and Saudi Arabia to bribe Congress and help to bring more Bangladeshi to Assam. Bodo's must fight for their survival or we will be wiped out by this invasion.

The International Film Critics' Federation (FIPRESCI) has selected New Delhi-based Assamese film critic Utpal Borpujari as a member of the International Critics' Jury at the forthcoming Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). The other two members in the three-member jury will be Carlos Alberto Mattos from Brazil and Steffen Moestrup from Denmark. MIFF is one of the world's largest festivals of documentaries, short fiction films and animation films. Organized by the Films Division of the Government of India, it will be held from February 3 to 9 this year.

Journalists’ Forum Assam has expressed profound grief at the sudden demise of young photo journalist and cultural activist Ashish Saikia. He was 42 years old. Hailed from Nagaon, Ashish started his journalistic career with Ajir Batori in Nineties. Later he successfully tried hands in acting and direction of movies. Ashish died on December 22. A citizens meeting at Guwahati Press Club yesterday expressed serious concern at the increasing rate of killing of tigers in various parts of Assam and urges the State government to activate the forest department and its public relation wings to fight against the superstition involving the wildlife parts.
