IIT, Guwahati hosting ALCHERINGA 08 on Jan 31

Come December 31. The weather is agog with festivities inside the Guwahati IIT campus.

The region’s premier institute of science and technology making brisk preparations to host Alcheringa,08, the name of an event which is more than a cultural festival.

Speaking to Assam Times, the celebration committee of this maiden event which will end on February 8, 2008 at the Guwahati IIT say, “we have evolved it in a brand of nation repute & recognition adorned with an aura of excellence.

“Today in its 12th edition,the brand stand as the torchbearer of the sprit of youth in the North East.”

They say for the wannabe fashion designers or supermodels, hot couture is all where they can showcase their creations.

Also, if one wants to steal the march in any prestigious competition one must cross three crucial rounds.

First comes Wacky Round. One must show one of the largest crowds of Alcher with what idea he or she has of fashion.

In the Traditional Round, there is showcase the apparel of any culture.

Finally comes the essence of Alcher ’08, he or she will have to go Retro.

“So let’s hear the slice of the fabric, the music as the models do their elegant catwalk. Let’s see colours of the design. Let’s see Hot Couture,” they say.

This will include following events to be showcased during the last day of Manthan: The curtain raiser - a peek-a-boo in 2008 Retro edition. It follows a dance performance by Cadence, the IITG dance group, then comes Mr. & Ms. final year - the biggest attraction to ens at the Favourite- 4th year nite.

The celebration officials further say the participants must contact them 5 days in advance to enable the organisers to lift him or her in time.

There will be faculties in separate rooms, say the organisers adding that all participants will have to carry their college identity cards and bonafide certificates.

Besides the restiction on alcohol consumption and smoking in the event site, the organisers will disqualify any indecent behavior or language in any form.

Amid a watertight security arrangement, seventy five percent voters exercised their franchise in the first phase of polls in the North Cachar Hills district on Monday.
