Beltola heat on police administration

The Shameful Saturday in Beltoa could have been averted if police administation was aware of its duties and responsibilities.

This has become as clear as broad day light going by two confidential letters special branch to the home department apprehending law and order problem on Saturday.

The first one, bearing No SBII(A)/72 AASAA-2007/171 from the special branch superintendent J C Sarma on 15th November, 2007 suggested needful measures in view of protest by Adivasi students in Beltola.

The copies of the letter was sent to Chief Secretary, Home secretary, Director General of Police, home and political secretary, Chief Minister’s cmmissioner with the personal secretary to Chief Minister.

Yet another confidential letter was either overlooked or ignored which has resulted in the mob.

Law and order IGP in special branch Khagen Sarma too in his letter on 16th November, 2007 suggested the IGPs of law and order for middle and west zone deputy inspector general of police, police superintendents of Kamrup and the city police chief to take preventive measures in the rally site to avert any untoward incident.

With this, the blame on the administration has been vindicated that it lacked more efficiency to tackle the law and order situation.

Notably, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently washed his hands off saying agitations are not new but he and his administration could not think of so much incidents during the rally.
