Security forces are fanning the areas across Assam-Arunachal pradesh border in Dhemaji district a few hours after NDFB kidnapped a top ranked railway officer on Saturday. According to information, railway construction form BAPL's project manager Anchal Modi was whisked away at gun point by a group of miscreants from Simenchapori in Dhemaji district who are suspected to be the cadres of NDFB's Ranjan Daimary faction at around 12 noon on Saturday.
In yet another incident the Bodo rebel group kidnapped an irrigation SDO Nur Ahmed from Tangla in Darrang district on Saturday. Ahmed was kidnapped from Kawadanga area. Details are awaited.

An eye-check up camp for the media persons in Guwahati Press Club has made shocking revelation that most of the participants were advised for further course of treatment. Organized with the support from Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya on October 29 in the press club premises, the health camp was an eye-opening experience for the scribes, who had not used spectacles earlier (and now they are being advised to do so). A group of physicians from the Nethralaya hospital including Dr Jiten Bhattacharya, Dr Debojit Deka with Niranjan Bezbaruah, Dibyajyoti Das, Mrinal Medhi attended the camp, where nearly 100 media persons participated.
The Journalists’ Forum, Assam (JFA) on Tuesday hailed the Gauhati High Court decision to admit a revision petition on the Parag Kumar Das murder case as a glimmer of hope for those who still believe in the rule of law and expect a logical end to the lingering case. It was stated in a JFA statement.

Thousands of AGP leaders and workers gathered in Dispur on Monday demanding government action to bring down the price level. The workers who arrived in the city of Guwahati in the morning from different places of the state gathered at Khanapara and later took out a procession to Dispur alleging the government's failure to deal with the price hike. Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya, in association with Guwahati Press Club has organized an eye check-up camp for scribes on October 29. The camp, to be held on the press club campus will begin at 9.30 AM. Eye specialists Dr Kasturi Bhattacharjee, Dr Pankaj Bhattacharyya will attend the camp with other staffs, informed Dr Jiten Bhattacharya of Sankardeva Nethralaya. NDFB's pro truce faction secretary S Sangjarang was seriously injured when two suspected cadres of the breakaway faction attacked him in Udalguri on Wednesday. According to information, the incident took place in Udalguri at around 10 in the morning when Sangjarang was riding on a motorcycle. Two motorcycle born youths suspected to be the cadres of NDFB's third battalion started sprayed several rounds of bullets on him where he fell injured. The miscreants left the spot immediately after the incident. Later the pro truce NDFB leader was rushed to Nemcare Hospital for treatment. Police investigation is in progress.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit Asam soon. The confirmation came up as Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called on the Prime Minister Manmohan at New Delhi on Tuesday where they discussed the move by China to build a dam on the Brahmaputra.
Dr. Singh conveyed the Chief Minister that he will soon visit Assam to attend the Assam Agriculture University Convocation and foundation stone laying ceremony of Petroleum Technology Institute at Sibsagar.
Talking to reporters after his meeting with Dr Singh, Gogoi said there was no definite proof regarding setting up of dam by China.

All Assam late Madhurjya Gogoi Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament has begun at Golaghat from October 20 under the aegis of All Assam Table Tennis Associating. The tournament has been organized by Golaghat Sports Association. About 250 players including all the top ranked paddlers of the state have participated in this prestigious tournament. The tournament was inaugurated by DC Ajit Baruah, Chairman Golaghat Municipality Board in a very glittering function.
