Pang-Sau-Pass Winter Festival 2012 on January 21-23


The Pang-Sau-Pass Winter festival is a three days extravaganza of folk songs and dances, ethenic food feasts, traditional sports, expeditions, sightseeing, eco-trekking, angling, boating on the Rima river and general Burmese culture, to visit the war cemetery of World War II and the Border Trade Centre will be held from January 21 to January 23.


Nampong, the venue of the Pang-Sau-Pass Winter festival EAC Headquarter of Changlang District situated in the South-Eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh is a small hilly town in the Indo-Myanmar border and Namchik basin, it sis covered with evergreen rain forest. The Venue has been designed as a global village as it conjoins the diverse tribes of the North Eastern region of India and of Myanmer to display their customs and cultures in a broader perspective. The cultural carnival has cut across social barriers inspiring the secluded regions to celebrate the sense of distinctive individual ethnic identity which strongly bonds all these culturally religiously diverse tribes.


Along with the festival there are other things of tourist attraction. The historical Stillwell road of II World War, being the gateway of trade for North East India, driving down the serpentine Stillwell road magnifies the excitement manifold. During the Festival the visitors are allowed to see the Pang-Sau-Pass and visit the “Lake of No Return in Myanmar side.

Social worker, ardent follower of satriya culture and astrologer, Prasanna Mahanta of Sr iSri Na-Mati Katonipar Satra, Nangalamora passes away at Assam medical college, Dibrugarh on January 17 at an age of 53. Due to a sudden stroke, Mahanta became unconscious during a pal-nam of this Satra organised for Bhogali Bihu. He was shifted to Assam Medical college, Dibrugarh. The sudden demise of Mahanta creates sorrow among his family and friends. He was also an employee of irrigation department. Late Mahanta left behind his married daughter, a son and his wife.
Dead body of 18-year-old youth, Abhijit Kalita of Namti-Misajan recovered under suspicious condition from the rented house of Makhan Borah of B.G. road Sivasagar, near the ONGC colony on January 18. The dead body was found hanging on the varanda of the rented house. Abhijit was a driver in the contractual vehicles plying on ONGC duty.
Dedicated follower of vaishnovite culture and retired teacher Minakanta Dutta of Panibil-Gumutha, near Nazira passed away at an age of 93. Besides his devotion to social work, late Dutta published a book "Sarba-Gunakor" related to vaishnovite thought and principle. “Kalugaon Samonoy Sangskritik Samaj” and “Mukul Sahitya Sabha, Shaloguri” are jointly organising a “Shradhanjoli” programme of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Dr. Mamoni Roisom Goswami at Kalugaon Girls High School on January 22-23. There will be competition of fine-arts, bhupendra sangeet and recitation of poetry with two sections in two days event. On first day, the famous play “Shukunir Pratishudh” of late Ganesh Gogoi, and on the 2nd day, “Angikar” by late Prafulla Bora will be staged. The proverb, “Third time lucky” is completely proved in a dangerous road accident today near the Simoluguri police station, of Sivasagar district. The bike rider's life is saved fortunately. The accident is occuered at about 2 p.m, on Tuesday - a Honda CR100 motor cycle (AS-04-E-4440) entered near the back wheels of the Sivasagar-Sonari bound 709 mini bus (AS-04-B-3438). the bike is badly damaged. Police have taken this lucky man to hospital but his name is unknown till sending this news.
