Air turbulence damages film equipment in Jet airways

5 Aug 2012 - 12:41am | Raktim Baruah

Beware of Jet Airways. In yet another case of gross negligence, the ground staff of the Jet Airways has reportedly damaged the filming equipment of a journalist who landed on 30th of July at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati from Mumbai. The journalist was on a visit to cover the Assam flood situation from an international news agency of repute.

He said that the ground staff admitted the fault in black and white immediately. However, the Jet head-office rejected the compliant without enquiring with the local staff. They simply refused to accept the responsibility for the damage to the equipment and claimed that it happened because of air turbulence which is why, the airlines are not liable for it.

‘How can you justify a moderate air turbulence damaging heavy duty professional filming equipment’’, wonders Anshul Ojha. He further said that in that case they should think of the safety norms while flying with this airlines that flies in heavy-gear damaging conditions.

The passenger has also not taken the delivery of the equipment and it still is kept with Jet airways in Guwahati. He is contemplating to file a FIR against the airlines.

According to the DGCA guidelines, it is the airline’s duty to handle the baggage marked fragile with utmost care. However, it has been reported by many passengers that Jet ground staff at Guwahati airport handles the baggage without any proper care. Often, it causes damage. Many passengers, at times, lodge complaint of throwing the baggage while unloading from the aircraft by the ground staff. Will the authorities take up the serious allegations?
