Nagaon BJP candidate Rajen Gohain and his AGP counterpart Mridula Borkakoty filed their nominations to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 24.Accompanied by over 500 the sitting MP reached the Nagaon Deputy Commissioner’s office premises at 12-30 in the afternoon where he filed his nomination papers before the returning officer.On the other hand, accompanied by senior leaders along with many party workers the AGP candidate took out a procession across the Nagaon town for two hours. This was followed by the filing of her nomination papers.The election in this third phase will take place on April 24 in Nagaon along with Barpeta, Dhubri, Mongoldoi, Kokrajhar.
Three workers including a women were killed and three others sustained injury when miscreants fired upon a group of people who were building a bridge in Gossaigaon on Wednesday.The incident took place at Kochugaoon Borbzar area at around 11-30 in the morning when three motorcycle born youths halted and started firing indiscriminately at the workers engaged in the bridge construction site.Identified as Rajjib Mushahary, Ashatun Bibi and Khairbur Sheikh were killed on the spot. Immediately after it the miscreants fled from the spot.After arriving in the spot, security forces cordoned off the entire area to nab the miscreants. The injured were rushed to the hospital.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said that Akhil Gogoi has secret understanding to defeat Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters after attending a poll rally in Sivasagar, Gogoi said that both Modi and Akhil Gogoi won’t be able to dislodge his party. “Let them do these. Let them take on me and our party. We won’t allow it to happen,” said Gogoi. Police seized 84 bottles of foreign liquor in Guwahati on Tuesday citing it a case of violation of modal code of conduct. sources told Assam Times that the seizure was conducted in Khanapara when a person was carrying these commodities. The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday adjourned the move to register cases against Chief Minister and revenue minister in connection with the Pranab Boro self immolation case.The high court intervention came after the court heard a petition of the government challenging the additional chief judicial magistrate’s order to file a case against the duo acting on the complaint of the victim’s wife.The court, however, has issued notice to the ACJM in Kmarup in this regard and decided to hear the entire case after the bihu.Notably, ACJM has directed Dispur police to file case against chief minister Tarun Gogoi and revenue minister Pritivi Majhi on the basis of Purnima Boro’s allegation that the duo...
