CEM appeals to Railway

The Chief Executive Member, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Sri Debojeet Thaosen requested the N F Railway not to shy away from their responsibility as it is evident that the immediate effect of wanton earth cutting for BG construction was heavy landslide which damaged the roads, valuable land of the public while appealing to take more protective measure and to arrange adequate compensation to the people who have lost land and property immediately.


Sri Thaosen, alongwith Addl. Chief Engineer, PWD Roads Sri S P Homechowdhury Asst. Executive Engineer, PWD Sri H. Lhouvom inspected the restoration work at Rekho village near Harangajao on July 23rd.


A 250 mts stretch on Haflong – Silchar road (NH 54 E) was damaged due to heavy landslide on the night of May 21st, 2011 following which the communication in between Haflong – Silchar road was totally disrupted. Though this road is belongs to NHAI, but the PWD, with the approval of NHAI is constructing the road for the speedy restoration of traffic and expected to make through within next seven days.


Talking to the visiting media person CEM said the railway itself should be careful enough of further loss of government and public property due to such landslides and adequate protection with scientific and technical measures to be taken while constructing the BG through this hilly region.


Addl. Chief Engineer, PWD Roads Sri S P Homechowdhury said ‘we cannot go against the nature’. Vertical earth cutting at the downstream by the Railway, encouraged with the heavy rain, was the prime cause of landslide.

Huge cache of arms & ammunition recovered at Maibang

C-in-C of DNLF held

In a joint operation, one Laksham Lobongdisa, active cadre of Dimasa National Liberation Force was apprehended by 9 Madras and Assam Police at Maibang on Wednesday.It is learnt that a group of three members of DNLF had come to Maibang market to extort money from businessmen, the security personals after a chase apprehended one of there members while two others managed to escape from the security net. Slow progress of Lumding-Silchar BG conversion lamented
