One day training was held on mushroom production technologies for blind and farmers’ master trainer on 21st of July 2011 Thursday at The Supervisors Training Center at Directorate of Agriculture Khanapara Campus from 10 Am to 5 Pm by Mushroom Development Foundation (MDF) of Guwahati.
In the training cum workshop Mr Montu Bhuyan the blind volunteer along with the President of North East Small Scale Industries Association Mr Niren Sarma and an entrepreneur from Arunachal Pradesh for cluster development as master trainer were present among other farmers and participants. The uses of Mushroom as Food, Food Supplement and Fortification, Medicine, Industrial recycler, Bio-Pesticide, Bio-Fertilizer, Bio-Fuel, Bio-Cosmetic etc were highlighted. The cluster model of MDF and the strategy for community participation in economic development were the thematic areas covered in details. Further practical training was given and General Secretary of MDF Pranjal Baruah (Ashoka Fellow) along with the staff and members of MDF showed every step of the cultivation to the post harvesting to Mr Bhuyan holding the hand step by step. It was realized that Mr Bhuyan could take up most part of the cultivation expect very few challenges which can be easily supported by any one with little understanding. Mr Bhuyan was courageous and committed to carry it forward so that a lot of blind people will be benefited by this effort and he will start cultivation of mushroom and help MDF in preparing a hand book for the blind from documentation of his learning’s.
Shri Kishore Mohan Bhattacharryya HOD, Disability Studies, Guwahati University was also present in the meet and he assured that his department would print the hand book on mushroom growing for the blind in Braille. The meet concluded with a ray of hope among the approx 60 thousand blind in the state to be introduced with knowledge and opportunity opening into a new economic activity.
