48 hrs Dima Hasao Bandh

The 48 hours Dima Hasao Bandh, sponsored by Dima Halam Daogah (Joel) starting from 5 am today affected normal life here at Haflong adversely.


Demanding immediate release of all the jailed leaders of Dima Halam Daogah (Joel), the DHD(J) has called for 48 hours Dima Hasao Bnadh from 5 am of 23rd to 5 am of 25th next, disclosed Bele Dimasa, Publicity secretary, DHD(J) in a press meet held at it Liaison Office at Sarkari Bagan, Haflong today(Sunday).


Dimasa said if the government does not pay heed to their demands then they would be compelled to call such bandhs for the release of their leaders in future also.


It is to be mentioned here that the DHD(J) had surrender their arms on October 2nd 2009 before the Chief Minister, Sri Tarun Gogoi who had assured to solve their problems within 100 days.


Talking to the newsmen Dimasa also expressed concern over the indifferent attitude of the government saying that government is not giving proper importance to their grievances which may lead to frustration among the cadres.

Arms recovered at Maibang

Based on specific input about a cache of hidden weapons in general area of Damsodiang Phai (Daiphai) village under Maibang Police Station, a troops of 9 MADRAS along with  Assam Police personnel launched a search operation to recover the said cache on Wednesday. While searching the area outside the village in the nearby jungle, a weapon cache was found hidden underground wrapped in polythene. On digging out, it led to the recovery of four sophisticated AK-56 assault Rifles and four AK-56 magazines. Haflong Convent High School authority under fire

Guardians of the students of Hafong St Agnes Convent High School expressed serious concern over the autocratic attitude of the School authority. Vocational training at Haflong

In an effort to resurrect the life of person who have bid good bye to insurgency and decided to lead a dignified life, the Haflong based Assam Rifles Sector had initiated a pilot project for rehabilitation of these surrendered cadres and had trained 35 of them under various vocational trades from industrial training institute (ITI) Haflong from 16 Jul 2012 to 20 Oct 2012.
