Akhil Gogoi arrested

Peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi was today arrested at Guwahati by the city police. He was arrested from the Guwahati Press club premise where he organised a press conference. The police cited that he broke the restrictions under the Representation of the people' Act. Hower he was released from the police custody. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered him to release. On the otherhand Akhil gogoi along with other activists staged demonstration in front of deputy commissioner office (Guwahati Metro) demanding clarification from the election Commission of India, weather he was arrested under the aforesaid act. He alleged that it is a conspiracy of the ruling congress.

Next Assam election will be held April-May

The ensuing Assam assembly election will be held in April-May of next year. Amidst speculation it was declared by the chief election commissioner of India Naveen Chawla at Guwahati on June 4. After a meeting with the state electoral officers he said it in a press conference.He also said that the preliminary preparations for the up coming pool are going on and the dates will be fixed later.

New talks between NSCN (IM) and Centre resume tomorrow

In order to bring a stabililty to the north eastern part of the country a new round of talks will be held on June 1 between NSCN (IM) and the central peace-negotiator at Nagaland. According to report R.S. Pandey, the main peace-negotiator of the central government will meet NSCN (IM) leaders in Kohima besides officials from the central home ministry and intelligence agencies. Thuingalang Muivah, general secretary of NSCN (IM) will take part in the talks. It is expected that these talks would cover wide range of issues. 1200 Reang Regugees came back to Home

A group of 1200 Reang refugees has returned back to home, Mizoram from Kanchanpur of north Tripura after thirteen years of displacement. Chidambram pushes onus of peace-talk to the state government

Union Home minister P Chidambaram today expressed his satisfaction over the law and order situation of Assam. He said in Guwahati that the improvement of complicated situation of the state is dramatic. Two NDFB cadres killed at Sonitpur

Two hardcore anti-talk faction of NDFB cadres were killed at Misarai in Sonitpur district of Assam today May 24 in an encounter with the security forces. A pistol, two mobile phones and two bicycles were recovered from the slain ultras. They were not identified yet.Another cadre of this militant was killed yesterday in same district. Four rhino poachers killed in Kaziranga

Four rhino poachers were killed on May 21 at the Kaziranga National Park in an encounter with forest guards. The encounter took place at Mihirmukh in the Kohara range during the time of a daily vigil by the guards. One .303 rifle was recovered from them. Mentionable that at least thirty five rhinos lost life in the hands of poachers in the last four years. Skyrocketing price rising of essential commodities, amidst other problems, paralyses not only the life of poor but also the life of well-to-do of the entire country.
