voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

Poachers caught

Two poachers were apprehended by police in Golaghat district on Monday.Acting on a tip-off, the police launched a search operation in Balijan Adarsh Mising village under Bokakhat police station and arrested the two from their residence.Police recovered a Chinese made M-22 rifle with seven rounds of ammunitions and a .303 rifle with six cartridges from the poachers who have been identified as Zila Doley and Bhaiti Pegu.The duo llegedly involved in the recent killings of a rhino and removal of its horns in Kaziranga National Park were apprehended by police in Golaghat district.

Encounter: 2 NDFB militants killed

Two cadres of the Songbijit faction NDFB were killed in an encounter with security forces at Audang Bazaar in Kokrajhar on Sunday. But the  family members of the deceased claimed it to be a fake encounter.They  identified as Rahul Brahma @ B Rugung and Anjalu Brahma @ Maru @ Udang was killed in encounter during the search operation around 9.20 in the morning at Audang Bazaar in Kokrajhar. Two pistols, a grenade and two extortion notes were recovered from their possession. JFA extends moral supports to Manipur journos

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) has extended its moral support to the agitating media poisons of Manipur on its struggle against the militants. The Assam based scribe’s body argues that the media persons under the banner of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) have taken a significant stand against the armed militants who have dared to threaten the media with their gun power.“In any situation, the media should (must) not be dictated in a democratic country. Dengue toll goes up to 3

The killer dengue claimed one more life in Guwahati on Thursday. Zoo Road resident Raju Dewan died of the disease at Down Town Hospital on Wednesday three days after his wife Loni died of the same disease. Explosion before Cinema hall

Panic grips in Bongaigaon town when NDFB militants triggered a bomb on Wednesday.There is no report of any casualty and damage to property. But the target was believed to be the Mayapuri cinema hall.Preliminary investigation suggests it a crude bomb, which was attached to a cycle parked in the area, triggered off the incident. 181 helpline for women

Dispur is prepared to operationalise 181 helpline exclusively for women in distress.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi writes to Chief Secretary PP Verma asking him to instruct the state Home and Political Department to work out an action plan to operationalise the 181 helpline facility for women as it was in other states like Delhi.Gogoi directed that the helpline be operationalised in consultation with the Assam Police, Health and Family Welfare, Assam State Disaster Management Authority and other line departments. Dispur firm on ST status

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the state government would continue its fight to get ST status for six communities in the state.Talking to reporters on Monday, Gogoi said that his government woud be fighting for the ST status for the six communities saying that it was a legitimate demand.He said the Centre has not rejected the proposal. Only the Registrar General Of India (RGI) has not recommended the proposal. He said that the state government would write to New Delhi again on the issue.The Assam government has recommended ST status for Koch-Rajbongshis, Tai Ahoms, Morans, Muttocks, Chutias and tea tribe/adivasi communities.
