Dispur firm on ST status

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the state government would continue its fight to get ST status for six communities in the state.
Talking to reporters on Monday, Gogoi said that his government woud be fighting for the ST status for the six communities saying that it was a legitimate demand.
He said the Centre has not rejected the proposal. Only the Registrar General Of India (RGI) has not recommended the proposal. He said that the state government would write to New Delhi again on the issue.

The Assam government has recommended ST status for Koch-Rajbongshis, Tai Ahoms, Morans, Muttocks, Chutias and tea tribe/adivasi communities.
