voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

Voters want change: Sonowal

BJP state president and Lakhimpur candidate Sarbananda Sonowal said that the people want change of guard at the Centre.Talking to reporters after casting his vote in Chabua, Sonowal said that his party will top the tally this time in Assam.  Sonowal arrived at the polling booth in Chabua at around 12 noon where he exercised his franchise at 12-15 in the afternoon.

Advantage Cong: Fernandes

AICC poll observer for Assam Oscar Fernandes said that the ruling party in the state will be able to put up a wonderful performance in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on Monday.Fernandes who has arrived to monitor the polling for the party told reporters that dissidence and dissatisfaction among the ruling party will not leave any adverse impact on the poll prospect. He said that the voters are impressed at the wonderful performance of the Tarun Gogoi government in the state.

Huge turn out in LS polling

A huge turnout is expected in five constituencies where the first phase of Lok Sabha pollings are taking place on Monday.Voters----both new and old are waiting in long queues in front of the polling booths to exercise their franchise as soon as the voting began at 7 in the morning.Jorhat and Dibrugarh ok Sabha seats have registered 35 per cent turn out till 12 noon. At 12 noon, the voters’ turn out in Koliabor is 17 per cent.  Same picture was seen in Lakhimpur, and Tezpur where polling is underway with brisk note. Barring some technical glitches, pollings are by and large peaceful.  

Alert on ULFA foundation day

Despite polling day, security forces are spreading across the state in view of ULFA foundation day on Monday.High alert is being sounded in the vital railway stations, roads, bridges, oil and gas installations fearing ULFA strike on its foundation day.ULFA militants have hoisted flags in the wee hours in several districts to be seized by police in the morning.Maximum alert has been sounded in the five Lok sabha constituencies where voting is underway from 7 in the morning.    

We will get all 5 seats today: Gogoi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is confident that the ruling party would be able to win all the five seats where the first phase of Lok Sabha poll is taking place on Monday.Talking to reporters minutes after casting his votes at DC Baruah Girls’ HS School on Monday morning, Gogoi said that the ruling party would cash in on the division of opposition votes where AGP candidate Pradeep Hazarika is contesting.“Whatever my government has done during my tenure as chief minister is best of all the states in the country. Gogoi casts vote in Jorhat

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi casted his vote at a heavily attended polling booths on Monday morning.  Accompanied by his wife Dolly Gogoi, the chief minister joined the queue of voters for nearly 30 minutes at the DC Baruah Girls HS School at No 10 Jorhat ward. He casted his vote at 9-50 in the morning.Hours before that his son Gaurab Gogoi also exercised his franchise before leaving for Koliabor where he is contesting as the Congress candidate.

Handique votes in Jorhat

Jorhat Congress candidate BK Handique has exercised his franchise in Jorhat in the morning on Monday.Accompanied by his wife and daughters, the former Union minister arrived in his booth at DC Baruah Girls HS School in No 13 ward of Jorhat town and casted his vote.Talking to reporters he said that his performance during the last ten years would help him poll more votes than the last time.

Polling by and large peaceful

Brisk polling is going on in Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Dibrugarh and Koliabor where 64,10,883 voters are exercising their franchise to decide on the fate 51 candidate in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on Monday.Heavily guarded by 321 companies of security forces apart from 1221 para military forces, the polling is underway in 8,588 booths. The authorities have deployed 38,463 officials apart from 743 micro observers.Of the 8,588 booths, 407 have video cameras while 139 stations have still camera. Web casting is in progress in 200 booths.Barring a string of EVM anomalies, the polling is by and large peaceful which will continue till 4 in the afternoon.

Ranee Narah casts vote in Lakhimpur

Union minister and Lakhimpur Congress candidate Ranee Narah has casted his vote after the first phase of Lok Sabha polls began on Monday morning.Accompanied by her husband Bharat Narah, she arrived in the No 150 Boginodi polling both where she exercised her franchise at 8 in the morning.Later talking to reporters, she said that her victory is sure and that she has not seen any strong rival candidates to be reckoned with.   Altogether 14,24,008 voters are exercising their franchise to decide on the fate of 13 candidates.Narah is seeking fresh mandate to lock in a keen contest with BJP state president Sarbananda Sonowal.AGP candidate Hari Prasad Dihingia is no less popular in some...

Gaurav casts vote in Jorhat

Koliabor Congress candidate and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s son Gaurav Gogoi has exercise his franchise in Jorhat in the morning.Accompanied by his wife, Gaurab arrived in his booth at DC Baruah Girls HS School in No 103 ward of Jorhat town and waited for the moment for half and hour.Finally, he casted his vote at 7-45 in the morning. Talking to reporters after casting his vote, Gogoi said that his party would be able to show a commendable performance this time.Later, he left for Koliabor to visit the polling booths where he is contesting as the Congress candidate.
