voter awareness campaign failed to make impact on Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prim Minister of India, as he did not cast vote here. What do you expect from general public? Though he later on said that he has casted vote throuh Postal Ballot, he had to give the explanation due to report in the media fearing criticism- one feel.

Subba’s condition still critical

Former Congress MP Mani Kumar Subba’s condition refuses to improve on Wednesday two days after he underwent a brain surgery at the Medanta City Hospital in Gurgaon.According to sources, Subba who was rushed from Guwahati following cardiac ailment is still on ventilation support.    Subba, who is contesting from Tezpur in the Lok Sabha polls suddenly fell ill on Thursday last at his residence in Lakhimpur before being flown to GNRC in Dispur.His family members rushed Subba to Gurgaon for better condition where he is not out of danger.

Stage set for repolling in 5 booths

The stage is set for repolling in four booths on Thursday. All these booths fall under Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency where EVM refused to function properly on Monday.According to Jorhat returning officer, repolling will take place from 7 in the morning at 38 Sensuwa LP School under Jorhat Assembly segment, 5 Pukhuria LP School under Mariani assembly segment, 84 Baharbari LP School under Sonari Assembly segment and 61 Khoragarh LP School under Amguri assembly segment.Repolling was ordered after the authorities were convinced of EVM malfunctioning.

SC ‘No’ Kamal interim bail

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected interim bail for Kamal Medhi who has been booked in connection with the Pranab Boro self immolation case.The division bench of the apex court heard the petition moved on his behalf where the KMSS general secretary was denied bail in view of the seriousness of the case pending against him with the Dispur police station.Medhi moved the top court after the Gauhati High Court refused to grant him anticipatory bail in connection with the sensational case where a KMSS activist died in self immolation attempt in Dispur on February 24.

Cong MLA ill

Congress MLA in Silchar Dinesh Prasad Goala is ailing. Goala, who is undergoing treatment at Silchar Valley Hospital of heart ailment would be airlifted to Kolkata.According to information, Goala was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathing problem due to heart attack.Doctors attending on him suggest the family members to rush him to Kolkata for better treatment.

Polling officials injured in Diphu firing

Three polling officials sustained injury when KPLT militants targeted three buses carrying them to Diphu on Tuesday.The incident took place at Howraghat in the evening when the three buses carrying Electronic voting machines and officials from Nagaon and Tezpur.KPLT militants who were hiding on the roadside started indiscriminate firing at the buses as soon as they arrived in the in Rongpi Tiniali.Minutes after the attack, the militants managed to vanish from the spot. 8 died after mushroom consumption

Eights persons died and over ten others have taken ill after they consumed mushroom in five parts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Sivasagar district on Tuesday.All they were rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh three days back.The deceased were identified as Aarti Buragohain and Rupali Gogoi from Digboi, Anjali Durga and Leba Sashi from Namdang in Margherita, Dulima Majhi, Satu Kormakar and Manjuri Goria from Moran in Sivasagar district.  Apart from the over ten others, including 3 of a family, have been undergoing treatment at the AMCH.Relatives of the victims from Margherita told Assam Times that they collected mushroom from the nearby jungles.They were taken ill...

Storm lashes Chaygaon, Rangia
