Last homage paid to Pranjal Saikia
Hundreds of people on Wednesday evening poured into Pranjal’s home to bid a tearful adieu to the braveheart Pranjal Saikia, who laid down his life at Tongona village under Kakopathar P S fighting militants in March 15 was consigned to flame with full state honour at his native village Dighaliati under Raha Police Station.
People crowded at Pranjal’s home soon after the 30 year old Police Sub-Inspector wrapped in the tricolor was received by family members. Tears rent the air as the last journey of Pranjal started from his house in nearby creamation ground around 7.35 p.m. The brother of the martyr lit the pyre.
Along with grief stricken family members ,friends,colleagues,strangers and common people broke down as the 30 year old Pranjal’s inconsolable mother sat close to his body caressing her son repeatedly touching his forehead. Several organizations of Raha also offered floral tribute to Pranjal. Police personnel of Raha Police Station including i/c Arun Kr. Bora were also present in the creamation site.
Born in 1981 at Dighaliati village of Raha Pranjal was the second son of retired school teacher Jhulan Saikia. He had joined the Assam Police in 2008 and was loved by all for his amiable nature.

Normal surface communication on the National Highway-37 remained heavily disrupted on Tuesday when the All Tiwa Students’ Union blocked it demanding inclusion of the Tiwa Autonomous areas in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. A guitarist died a tragic death at a road mishap in Raha casting a spell of gloom in the area on Friday.The incident took place when a speeding Indica car rammed into his two wheeler at Phulaguri at noon as he was trying to cross the four lane highway.Identified as Lakshi Prashad Bora, the motorcyclist was a popular guitarist who was an inhabitant of Ghahi Bhaticuri village.
Speeding trucks have been an agent of death on the National Highway these days. An oil tanker crushed to death a person in Raha on Thursday. The shocking incident took place at Jongal Balahu Garh when identified as Prafulla Biswas, the person was run over by a Guwahati bound oil tanker as he was trying to cross the four-lane National Highway in the afternoon.
Its strange but true. A money like kid is born. But the mother is a goat. The bizarre incident took place at Madhya Tupakuchi in Raha on Thursday morning. A tiny hamlet in Raha suddenly drew the attention of thousands of the people when a goat gave birth to two kids which resembled a monkey. Talking to Assam Times, the owner said,” I could not believe my eyes. I am at my wit’s end. What to do.” The heads resembled the face of monkey features– the eyes, the nose and the mouth – only the ears were those of a goat. "This incident is very shocking. Tiwa Students on Friday burnt the effigy of Rama Kanta Dewri in Raha to protest the recent attack on two of their colleagues. The students of Raha and Barapujia thronged the National Highway at Raha and burnt the effigy of the TAC chief. Led by ATSU president Prahlad Mosrong, the students further demanded Dewri’s arrest in this connection. Notably, the student body on Thursday called for the 12 hour central Assam bandh in this connection.
The 12-hour middle Assam bandh called by All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU ) today passed off peacefully at Raha and its neighbouring areas Dharamtul, Ahatguri, Chaparmukh,Barapujia, Phulaguri, Demow without any untoward incident. Two persons sustained injury when a vehicle carrying them met with a mishap near Raha in Nagaon district on Monday. The mishap took place at Bagariguri at 7.30 in the morning. Identified as Moidul Islam and Hibzur Rahman, the injured were rushed to the Nagaon Civil Hospital.
