Reliable sources told Assam Times that the chief minister has sent the copy of Dr Sarma’s resignation letter to AICC conveying his decision to accept it. Dr Sarma put in his papers on Monday saying that he was not prepared to work under Tarun Gogoi as chief minister.
The dissident ministers and MLAs are running the risk of stern action from the party high command. State Congress committee on Monday has urged the AICC to take stern action against outgoing education and health minister alleging anti party activities. APCC along with 13 ministers have jointly urged the party leadership to take action against the dissident MLAs and ministers who accompanied Dr Sarma in his journey to the Raj Bhawan. The Gogoi camp finalized their strategies after they met at the residence of social welfare minister Akon Bora.
AICC on Monday downplayed Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation saying that it would have hardly any impact on the ruling party. Hours after Dr Sarma put in his papers as health and education minister, AICC spokesman Manish Tewari said that the developments would do any harm for the party. Tiwary said that there was nothing really to be worried about it ad that everything got sorted out amicably.
Finally Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma put in his papers as health and education minister on Monday. Dr Sarma, who has been spearheading the dissidence drama in Dispur shot off his letter to chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday morning. Talking to reporters after he sent his resignation, Dr Sarma said "I have decided not to compromise with my conscience any more. A Naga miscreant was killed in a heavy exchange of fire in Doldoli Reserve Forest in Karbi Anglong district along the Assam-Nagaland border during an anti-encroachment drive on Monday. According to information, the incident took place when gunmen from across the border fired upon security personnel and workers engaged in the eviction operation forcing the police to retaliate where the miscreant was killed. An AK-series assault rifle and a pistol were recovered from the deceased.
A vertical split seems to have surfaced among the dissident MLAs and ministers who want Tarun Gogoi’s exit as chief minister. The sharp difference takes place after a section of them decided to move the governor JB Patnaik with a no trust motion against Tarun Gogoi as CLP leader. But a section of these legislators belonging to the dissident camp did not endorsed the move and insisted on floating a new party. A circle of senior dissident legislators has already openly opposed the ultimatum served to the high command which was why, they had to be embarrassed before the AICC top guns. Sarat Borkotoky, Dr Bhumidhar Barman and Chandan Sarkar are believed to have silently taken the side of...
Outgoing health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma makes it plain and simple that he would continue to oppose Tarun Gogoi as chief minister as long as he stays. Immediately after sending his resignation letter on Monday, Dr Sarma who has been leading the dissident group said that he has 50 legislators behind him and if need be, he would name them. Criticising Gogoi, Dr Sarma alleged Gogoi only promised to quit owning moral responsibility for the poll debacle. But later he later backtracked. Is there any internal democracy in the Congress?" Sarma told reporters.
