Himanta quits Gogoi cabinet

Finally Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma put in his papers as health and education minister on Monday.

Dr Sarma, who has been spearheading the dissidence drama in Dispur shot off his letter to chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday morning.

Talking to reporters after he sent his resignation, Dr Sarma said "I have decided not to compromise with my conscience any more. Mentally, physically & politically it is not advisable to be in Gogoi government," Sarma said.

He said,"We do not want to defy Congress President Sonia Gandhi. We are going to play the role of constructive opposition in Assam now," he said.
