Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), activists led by its Secretary Akhil Gogoi, observed a 'Hatred Day' against the alleged rampant corruption in the state by the congress led State Government, at Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati, Assam on 10-01-11.

He's a kind of hybrid animal!! Who appealed innocent rural people something which is really inhuman i.e. He says "To pray to god that Hon'ble CM Sjt Tarun Gogoi should get sick and also said d people to use weapons like bow, swords, draggers against Officials and Employees of World Heritage Site Kaziranga National Park!! Please realize his real face of Maoism!

Peace returns to Assam: Gurung

Assam has reasons to heave a sigh of relief. Peace and development are back to the state. Militants, mostly, have shunned the path of violence paving the way for peace and tranquility. This was more or less of what GoC-in-C of Corps-4 Lt Gen Shakti Gurung said on Tuesday. Talking to reports in Tezpur, he said security forces under Unified Command Structure will continue to fight anti-social activities which disturb the peace and harmony of the people of Assam and North East. He said in view of the changed situation, Operation Rhino launched on January 25, 1990 has now been replaced by army's Operation Sadbhavana for winning the hearts and minds of people.

Utpal Borpujari selected to be member of the International Critics' Jury at MIFF

The International Film Critics' Federation (FIPRESCI) has selected New Delhi-based Assamese film critic Utpal Borpujari as a member of the International Critics' Jury at the forthcoming Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). The other two members in the three-member jury will be Carlos Alberto Mattos from Brazil and Steffen Moestrup from Denmark. MIFF is one of the world's largest festivals of documentaries, short fiction films and animation films. KMSS lifts blockade in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji

KMSS along with other anti-big dam protestors have announced brief suspension of blockade against in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji against NHPC on Tuesday. The decision was announced by KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi after they received invitation for talks with the government slated on Tursday. Gogoi and his organization resumed blockade on Monday asking the government to show its willingness for talks. Mishap at Tezpur: 2 dead, 5 injured

Two persons died on-the-spot and five others injured following a head-on-collision between a TATA Max pick up van and a Tata Winger at Mission Chariali in Sonitpur on Monday afternoon. The injured have been admitted to Civil hospital at Tezpur.

ULFA explodes grenade in Tinsukia; 10 injured

ULFA's anti talk faction seems to have stepped up activities ahead of the Republic Day. At least ten persons have sustained injuries when a powerful grenade exploded in Tinsukia on Monday. KMSS resumes anti big dam protest

After a brief halt, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji disticta erupted in anti big dam protest when thouands of people blockaded supply of materials meant from the NHPC-owned mega dams in Gruamukh. Spearheaded by KMSS and AASU, the potestors in thousands are holding protests along the National Highway No 52 to prevent rush o trucks carrying machinaries to Grukamukh. KMSS and AASU leaders said that they will not allow any vehicle to bound for Gerukamukh based NHPC-owned project. JFA condoles demise of Ashish Saikia

Journalists’ Forum Assam has expressed profound grief at the sudden demise of young photo journalist and cultural activist Ashish Saikia. He was 42 years old. Hailed from Nagaon, Ashish started his journalistic career with Ajir Batori in Nineties. Later he successfully tried hands in acting and direction of movies. Ashish died on December 22. Chaudhury New DGP for Assam

Jayanta Narayan Choudhury wil join as new Assam director general of police as Shankar Barua retired on Saturday.The name of Chaudhury was confirmed by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi hours before Barua demitted n Saturday. Barua handed over charge to Home Guards and Civil Defence DGP Rajendra Kumar in the police headqaurters here pending Choudhury taking over charge. Choudhury, Additional Director in the Intellegence Bureau (IB), is an 1978-IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
