Award to Assam Horticulture

Best Display Award given to Horticulture Directorate of Assam in the 6th International Flora Expo , held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi , which was commenced from 7th January, 2011 to 9th January, 2011. Madan Mohan Deuri Bharali has received the award on behalf of the Directorate. The Assam stall highlighted the diversity of floriultural resources of Assam in the Expo. Several visitors from different countries showing their interest in the exhibited items.

It is very much encouraging for the horticulturists and people associated with horticulture in Assam. I think development of horticulture in Assam will be faster if a separate full flaged Directorate of Horticulture is established.

A total of 80 patients were seen in a free cancer detection camp held at Sanjevani Hospital in which 20% was found to have pre cancerous lesions and two patients was detected cancer in the oral cavity. The camp was held recently in the Department of E..N.T. headed by senior consultant Dr. Bhaben Choudhury. Dr. Choudhury said that the incidence of cancer in oral cavity in Assam increased due to consumption of various forms of tobacco.
