Bodoland University Professors Ranked Among World’s Top 5% Scientists
Three faculty members honoured after securing places in SciRank Global’s World’s Top 5% Scientists 2025 ranking, bringing international recognition to Bodoland University.
In a significant achievement for Bodoland University, three of its distinguished faculty members have been ranked among the World’s Top 5% Scientists 2025 in the Global Scientist Index & Researcher Ranking prepared by SciRank Global (The Global Institute of Scientometrics).
The ranking was compiled using data from more than eight million active researcher profiles and over 20 million scholarly publications available through OpenAlex, one of the world’s largest open research databases.
The professors who earned the recognition are Prof. Heremba Bailung of the Department of Physics, Prof. Sanjay Basumatary of the Department of Chemistry, and Prof. Hemen Sarma of the Department of Botany. They were felicitated at a special ceremony held at the university's conference hall.
The programme was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.L. Ahuja, Rector Prof. Jatin Sarmah, Dean of Social Sciences Prof. Sanghamitra Choudhury, Dean of Commerce and Management Prof. A. Ibemcha Chanu, and Bodoland Science Congress Secretary Dr. Prince Mochahary. The three scientists were honoured with traditional Aronais and mementos in recognition of their contributions to scientific research.
Prof. Hemen Sarma and Prof. Sanjay Basumatary had earlier featured in the prestigious World's Top 2% Scientists list published by Stanford University and Elsevier on the basis of citation impact and research performance. This year, Prof. Heremba Bailung also secured a place in the World’s Top 5% Scientists ranking, marking another milestone for the university.
Speaking at the event, Rector Prof. Jatin Sarmah said the achievement would further enhance the visibility and reputation of Bodoland University in the field of scientific research. Several faculty members, including Dr. Rustam Brahma, Dr. Gayatri Deka Doloi and Dr. Prince Mochahary, expressed pride over the accomplishment.
Sharing their experiences, Prof. Bailung highlighted the importance of innovative thinking in producing quality research even with limited facilities. Prof. Sanjay Basumatary stressed the value of collaboration among researchers, while Prof. Hemen Sarma credited research projects, student participation, and national and international collaborations for strengthening his academic work.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.L. Ahuja congratulated the three professors for bringing global recognition to the university. He said their success reflected the quality of research being carried out at Bodoland University and would inspire other faculty members to pursue excellence in their respective fields.
The programme was convened by Prof. Hilloljyoti Singha, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, while Academic Registrar Dr. Manjil Basumatary expressed hope that more faculty members would achieve similar recognition in the future. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Singha.
