NRL Quiz held at Golaghat
The highest ever price money inter-institutional quiz competition of country, the NRL QUIZ kicks off with its Golaghat Zone qualifying round which was held at District Library Golaghat. The NRL Quiz is organized by Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. with a first prize of Rupees Five Lakhs All total 27 teams from Golaghat, Jorhat and Sibsagar District participated in the qualifying round. The duo of Hrishikesh Mali and Raktim Saikia of Jorhat Engineering College were the winner of the Golaghat Zone and Mansahi Barua and Debjani Borah of Kendriya Vidyalaya NEIST, Jorhat and Sandipon Pathak and Bishaljeet Baruah of JB College Jorhat were adjudged 2nd and 3rd position respectively. The zonal winner gets Rs. 20,000 and the 2nd and 3rd position holder get Rs. 10,000 and 5,000 respectively. The quiz was conducted by the noted quizmaster of Assam Dr. Dilip Baruah
The qualifying zonal rounds covering entire state will be held in the following zones Guwahati Zone consisting of Kamrup District will be held at G.U. Auditorium on 2nd December, Nalbari Zone consisting of Barpeta, Nalbari and Baksa district will be held at Nalbari Natya Mandir on 5th December, Bongaigaon Zone consisting of Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Chirang District will be held at Bongaigaon District Library on 8th December, Nagaon Zone consisting of Nagaon, Morigaon and Karbi Anglong District will be held at Nagaon District Library on 11th December, Tezpur Zone consisting of Sonitpur, Darrang and Udalguri District will be held at Tezpur University on 13th December, Dibrugarh Zone consisting of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur District will be held at Dibrugarh District Library on 15th December and Silchar Zone consisting of Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj and North Cachar Hills District will be at Silchar District Library on 20th December. Golaghat is drenched in the Bihu festivity and the the Brihattar Golaghat Nagar Rongali Bihu Sanmilan has added to the festive spirit of the people. This Bihu Sanmilan is unique in the sense that all the citizens of the town join hands together to celebrate Rongali Bihu with no donation collected from any external source but whatever the members have contributed themselves. The citizens of Golaghat town today extends their support to the ongoing hunger strike by the noted Gandhian leader Anna Hazare for the enactment of Jan Lokpal Bill. Numaligarh Police and ASRF, acting on a tip-off on Wednesday morning at around 5.30 am, recovered 200 kg of GANJA valuing over crore in the international market from a truck bearing registration No. JK-02/AH-7965. Police stopped the truck at the Numaligarh check-post and seized the ganja which were hidden under a pile of coal. The accused were identified as Surinder Sarma (45), Fakrul Islam (29) and Md. Sahabuddin (26), all hails from Jammu & Kashmir. The consignment was headed from Uriamghat to Jammu & Kashmir.

The voting turnout percentage of the four legislative constituencies are as Golaghat LAC 68%, Khumtai LAC 73%, Sarupathar LAC 70% and Bokakhat LAC 75%. In a major road accident in Pulibor Chariali of Golaghat district, 3 people lost their lives and 3 were critically injured. The accident took place at around 6 p.m. of 18th March. Trailokya Konwar 32, and Rekha Konwar, 28, both husband and wife were on their way back home on a scooter when they were mowed down by a speeding 407 mini truck. Both were died on the spot. After mowing them the truck crashed into the boundary wall of a house resulted into the death of one Mrs. Das (50). The injured were rushed to Golaghat Civil Hospital. The driver of the vehicle fled the spot.

Dead body of Ashim Dhar(34) who was gone missing from 4th March was recovered from Nambor Reserve Forest in a decomposed state. Mr. Dhar who was a inhabitant of Sukanjan in Karbi Anglong district, has been working in a tax consultancy firm in Golaghat town.
