Guwahati: Fourteen top ULFA militants, including a self styled second Lieutenant and a medical In charge of a battalion surrendered to the Assam police on last Thursday. They belong to the 28 and 709 battalion of the outlawed organization. While 28 battalion looks for entire upper Assam including North bank of Brahmaputra, 709 looks for entire lower Assam. These two battalions are believed to the back bone of ULFA’s subversive activities and fund raising. All were surrendered before Inspector General of Police (Special Branch) Khagen Sharma at his Kahilipara office in Guwahati. Mr. Sharma welcomed the surrendered ultras to the mainstream and announced that a cash amount of Rs 1.5 lakhs will be handed over to each of them after twelve months long employment oriented training programme at State Institute of Rural Development, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship and other institutes. He also said the financial grant will help the ULFA militants to begin their life a new. Self styled 2nd Lieutenant Dilip Kumar Sharma alias Anil Phukon led the surrender. Other surrenderee are Robin Bezboruah alias Putul Baruah, Lakhyadhar Kalita, Manik Gogoi alias Balen Phukon, Simanta Gogoi alias Udit Gogoi, Dulal Baruah alias Bhaskar Chaliha, Rupam Gogoi alias Labakanta Gogoi, Chintu Gogoi, Anil Gogoi, Subhas Bora alias Deep Chakravartty, Tapan Barua alias Ajit Chetia, Mitul Handique alias Asomjyoti Handique alias Bubu alias Biplab Rajkumar, Jayanta Roy alias Hemen Roy, Rajani Kalita alias Raj Medhi. They deposited one AK 47 assault rifle, three 9 mm pistols, one 0.22 rifle, two revolvers, two factory made pistols, five grenades; two improvised explosive devices, four kilograms of TNT explosive and assorted ammunition and electronic gadgets.
