The CNN-IBN has selected Assam's noted RTI activist Akhil Gogoi as one of the top ten young leader of the country. This was confirmed by the KMSS leader on Friday in Guwahati. The country's premier satellite news channel has also selected 9 other top young leaders. Gogoi has been waging war against largescale corruptions that cripple the public life for the last several years. He has been leading the farmers' body (KMSS) who of late, dropped a bomb shell against Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma alleging his nexus with R H Khan where a huge amount of fund meant for Dima Hasao district was siphoned off.

Akhil Da, We want our own resources to be preserved for future generation of Assamese people, mere giving a compensation for our land ,water by the Indian companies will not serve our purpose. We want our right to natural resources we have like nagaland,Arunachal Pradesh where even Indian big shot ONGC dare to start exploration,no one can buy a piece of land in Arunachal even PM of India cannot. we want people stock option in the Indian company where our people lost their land,job in the hand of Indian company hiddenly funded by world bank, Asian development bank,IMF etc .Sorry to say even our Prime Minister Dr. MM singh Ji is a virtual clark of World bank.

B Barooah college student killed in Kaziranga mishap

One student died and three others injured while their vehicle rammed into a speeding truck at Koliabar. The injured have been shifted to Bokakhat civil hospital. The deceased have been identified as Rahul Swargiary. Details awaited.

Rajkhowa bail judgement deferred to Wednesday

Guwahati Tada court will deliver its final judgment on ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa's bail plea on Wednesday. The court has fixed the date on Monday. It was to be delivered on Monday. But the judge reserved the ruling citing some legal hurdles. Rajkhowa's bail is almost sure if one goes by the Assam Government's earlier stand to facilitate the release of ULFA leaders.

EMFA Awards announced

The Electronic Media Forum Assam has announced three yearly awards to encourage the journalists, associated with the news channels, for their continued endeavour to reveal the truth through visual journalism. The three awards include best story of the year, best story on development issues and best story on environment issues of the region. The decision was finalised in a meeting of EMFA held in Guwahati Press Club on Sunday (December 19, 2010). TADA court likely to grant bail to Rajkhowa today

A local TADA court is all set to give its final judgment on ULFA chief Arabinda Rajkhowa's bail petition today. The court is expected to clear the bail to Rajkhowa in view of the government's written submission that it will not oppose the bail plea. On December 16, the Assma government counsel Pradeep Gogoi informed the court that the government would not oppose it in the light of its earlier decision to facilitate the release of the ULFA chief to ensure the much-awaited talks at an earlier date. The ULFA chief has 6 cases pending before the TADA court.

EMFA meeting at press club

The Electronic Media Forum Assam has instituted an annual EMFA Awards for electronic media professionals in Assam. The categories of awards will include ‘Best Story of the Year’, ‘Best Development Story’ and ‘Best Environmental Story.’ The formal announcements regarding the details of the awards will be made on December 19 at 11 am in Guwahati Press club. On the occasion the executive committee of the forum will also be formed, stated in a release issued by the conveners (Nava Thakuria, Pranjit Saikia and Bimal Ghosh) of the forum.

ULFA top leader Chaodang arrested in B'desh

Yet another ULFA top leader has been arrested in Bangladesh. According to reports, top gun of the insurgent outfit and close aide of Commander in Chief Paresh Baruah. Antu Chaodang has arrested in Bangladesh. He was arrested by BDR personnel from near Dhaka four very recently on his way back to to Bangladesh from a base in Myanmar. NFNE condemns assault on Journalists in Arunachal

National Federation of Newspaper Employees has expressed shock at the incident of assault on two women journalists of Arunachal Pradesh and condemned the incident. The national organization of media persons also extends moral support to the ongoing agitating programmes of local journalists against the authority for its failure to nab the culprits even after four days of the incident, stated in a release issued by Nava Thakuria, zonal secretary, NFNE. Giving something back

I believe everyone in their lives at one point or another think about how they can do some social work or contribute money to some cause so that they can generate good karma and sleep a little easier at night. Dan and I have thought about doing some social volunteering for some time now but unfortunately other commitments such as work, exercising, meeting friends and in general life, kept intruding on our aspirations. The preparation for the proposed ULFA-government peace process beefs up on Friday when government appointed interlocutor P C Haldar discussed the modalities of the talks with Arabinda Rajkhowa in the morning at the Guwahati Central Jail. The authorities are tightlipped about the development.
