Women participation in community namaz in Assam
Nearly 400 village women on 11.9.2010 took part in the community prayers within the campus of the Bandiya LP School , Bandiya village, a few kilometres from Mangaldai town of Assam, have set a rare example of community prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. This rare tradition of the little known village has reportedly been going on for a decade. Their male counterparts prayed at the Bandiya Eidgah Maidan in the east.
Special significance is attached to community prayers on the occasion of Eid in the Islam religion but the participation of women in such community prayers is restricted. Traditionally, women belonging to the religion offer namaz on Eid in their households. Significantly, at the time of the community prayers, the entire campus was covered with curtains and the entry of adult males was prohibited.

A total of 80 patients were seen in a free cancer detection camp held at Sanjevani Hospital in which 20% was found to have pre cancerous lesions and two patients was detected cancer in the oral cavity. The camp was held recently in the Department of E..N.T. headed by senior consultant Dr. Bhaben Choudhury. Dr. Choudhury said that the incidence of cancer in oral cavity in Assam increased due to consumption of various forms of tobacco. He appealed to the masses to avoid all form of tobacco which are very injurious to the health. In this connection Sanjevani Hospital already started awareness campaign in various parts of the state.
